I’d be more worried about the big naff off tax bill HMRC will be sending you because it was a MSC so wasn’t self employment therefore all the expense claims are voided and tax due on the amount. Mate got a bill for £3k and he’d only been with them 5/6 months.
Welcome Jackron, why not spill the beans publicly regarding Think/New Wave/ Igloo. Its well known on here what a shower of ■■■■ are behind those firms. Just type in Think Accounting in the search box or even google Think Accounting and read the reviews. Im rather hoping the news that you have is that the Directors of those firms have pushed their luck too far.
There was a time you automatically got sent to jail for refusing to pay taxes when demanded.
Now that tax revenue “collections” have been outsourced to these American shell companies - one side benefit is that you can default the demand - because these outsourced firms do NOT have the authority to get people sent to jail for non-payment of debts. In effect, defaulting taxes NOW - is no more serious than say, defaulting one’s credit card. It has been flipped over into an unsecured debt.
Courts will NOT be issuing Bailiff orders for low amounts of unpaid back taxes.
Tax Credits have been changed over from a benefit (Eg. you live off that money used to top up a low income) to a LOAN where you are expected to pay it back once you are back in full-time employment - a bit like the way Student Loans are supposed to be re-paid. Students who don’t go on to get that cushy job - find that they can default such loans rather easily. Without that big income - what is anyone going to take you to court at great expense - to get you to pay over? 
Once again - if you refuse to repay - the collections have been outsourced to yank outfits - who can bloody well whistle for their money. Ignore it for six years and such debts become statute barred under British Laws already in place.
The very notion of a debt being able to be “Sold On” - is absurd.
Such debts are no more enforceable than say, getting a bill in the post from a country you’ve never been to - saying “You owe this, because you accessed our TV/Media website without paying”.
Anyone who thinks paying money abroad to these Yank scammers - needs their head examining.
Today Brexit - Tomorrow - Let’s get out of the bloody “Special Relationship” and NATO.
