Well, after passing class 1 in january and getting adr and thinking 15 years coach experience would count for something,I’ve got …nowhere! Registered with 4 agencies with all their bull about giving me work and ended up with 2 shifts in a 7.5t that would barely go.Â
I went in person to almost every haulage company and own account operator within 50 miles of me and still continuing to do so and…nothing! Those 2 agency shifts (the only ones i got) put me over 16 hours so my jsa claim got binned.Â
I didn’t want to do it, but i’ve had to go back to the coach work for now just to get me some money to feed my family, and I can’t stand not working any longer! All this talk about driver shortage is bull. Why are there so many agencies? All they seem to do is fob people off, cancel jobs at the last second and drive down wages! They should all be shut down in my opinion!
im in a similar situation to yourself except only 5yrs pcv experience passed my class two 4 years ago and struggle to find work.
Ijust apply for any job i see and also if im speaking to someone in the industry i ask if their are jobs going ive had a few jobs since passing but the companies want me to break driving hrs which i wont do.
so currently doing service work but hey ho keep trying and never give up try applying for jobs with rubbish pay etc that other people dont want
gets a bit of experience under your belt iv got a interview today
good luck
dont give up.
Well-done research into the haulage industry properly would tell you that there’s an overload of drivers and a shortage of jobs. PCV experience practically counts for nothing in LGV/HGV civi streets.

Im holding out for 1 local company who said they’ll call when a space opens up, but could’ve just been a fob off? Good luck with the interview!
I’m struggling aswell mate. Passed my C a few weeks ago, am 26, no points on license. Singed up with 3 agencies locally and still had no luck. Just got to keep on trying thats all we can do!
I have had class 2 for 8 years and class 1 for 5 months and also struggling, i have noticed the same jobs for the same half a dozen companies crop up at regular 2-3 month intervals on the job centre website then appear on agency websites after that, applied at a local builders merchant had all the experience they wanted aswell as the DQC card, 6am starts 8pm finishes over 7 days, but alas asking for a minimum £18k salary was seen as being too over ambitious. !!
