or did here anyone hear much about shortage for Agency Staff?
If there is enough “Work” please inform Mr Cameron.

There is some work around, but its not spread evenly around the country, very spasmodic, very low paid and very short term when found.

Or on Workfare and just getting dole ££
Hello PinkLT,
yes I heard a radio story this morning about some scheme where people are asked to work for 8 weeks and they only get their Jobseeker’s money!!!
That’s sick! If you do a job, then you should get the minimum wage UNLESS what people do on this ‘scheme’ isn’t a job.
How can we let some companies make profit out of them like this?
It was reported that many companies and charities dont like the scheme as its giving them a bad press.
Well, if the candidate actually ends up getting a real job out of it, then maybe its just about tolerable.
Its probably a means of pretending to reduce the unemployment figures.
No - I think the idea is to give some of the dole-drawers some work experience. I bet that many employers will see it as a sort of extended interview. Sure they could abuse the system to get a steady stream of cheap labour, but I doubt if they’d get away with it for long.
shortage perhaps due to the AWR rule , I bet most of em are trying to get round paying the extra by rotating their regular pool drivers around before their 12 weeks are up,
why should people get money for nothing? whilst there are always going to be some firms that take advantage i don’t think the majority would. if people are genuinely long term out of work i think they’d welcome it. even if it doesn’t directly net you a job it’s going to look better to have done a few voluntarily jobs rather than sit in front of the tele for 4 years.
at my missus’s work (building firm) at least one person i know of secured a full time job this way. i was on a course last week and the trainer goes about the country a bit, he was doing some training in manchester with a group of job seekers 2 blokes had been on a 6 month placement as groundsmen at man u, one couldn’t be arsed, late, missed days attitude etc. the other got a permanent job as an assistant groundsman at manchester united.

Stevie,
I agree that people shouldnt get money for nothing for long periods of time.
But if they go on one of these schemes, I dont think it fair that a company could get cheap (free??) labour and make a profit out of it whilst the taxpayer pays the dole money to the labourer.
If the company makes a profit, then the candidate should get a reasonable wage. Trouble is they would probably lose rights to Housing Benefit and other benefits so they would end up losing out big style.
No, what we need (of course) is a good injection of real, actual jobs.
Not much chance when everybody is zb scared to spend any money on consumer goods in case they themselves get put on the dole next week!!
As I understand it, the jobseeker gets out of pocket expenses in return for 8 weeks labour with a guarantee of an interview at the end of the 8 week period. It stinks IMHO.
my missus done it for wilkingsons…no interveiw no thanks treated like crap…FREE LABOUR

but the problem there is that many roles will have unquantifiable profit with them, so how would that work? but the main thing is that, in theory the job doesn’t exist, the company doesn’t need, want or in some cases afford another worker. if they needed, wanted and could afford another worker then they would advertise for another worker.

was she on a guaranteed interview? if so did she complain / report it?
i personally don’t think a guaranteed interview is a good idea. because along with the false hope that would mean that there’s a real vacancy and that should be filled with a real worker.

not offered anything and she already had a part time job

never normally see agency in jan/feb at our depot but are this year, lists of vacant runs going up on walls hopingfor there own drivers to do it too save costs, but the amount of agency im seeing makes me believe its being done by agency drivers
things like this always get the job seekers figure mentioned, in brados’s link someone mentions a meagre £53 per week, how much much does the average job seeker get in rent, council tax, school dinners, school trips, prescriptions and gods knows what ever else their rights entitle them too.
i’m by no means saying this is a perfect scheme or is not without it’s problems.

Well my brother in law who is currently unemployed has no kids at home (he is 60) but his wife works 18 hours per week and gets zilch! NO JOBSEEKERS (after 6 months) No council tax reduction, no rent rebate - nothing because his wife is classed as working full time. Their council house rent alone is £87 a week. Rates are £24 a week, lekky/gas/water/food and the list goes on, and she earns £130 a week. He has always worked from the age of 15 until being made redundant in June last year.
If you have 3 kids and in the same position you will have money thrown at you and not be expected to work so you can look after the sprogs!

well there’s his wrong doing, he’s not an average job seeker!! his missus must get something or he’s using his redundancy as it’s intended, otherwise they can’t survive.
do you know his views on workfare / voluntary / work experience type working?

His wife gets £130 a week, he has no redundancy money he had only been there 18 months, as for surviving try telling the jobcentre that! Those are now the rules,[/b] he has attened 43 interviews for work since June last year (he is a fabricator/welder) and all he want’s is a job. No one wants to employ a 60 year old anymore, the skills are all gone now, but he is labelled the same as the scumbags who do not want to work or have never worked, most now are under 25 year olds who’s parents never worked either.
This guy is genuine and with skills, the jobcentre even sent him for an interview as a bingo caller and they said he was to old LOL but simply told the jobcentre he was unsuitable.
