Theory (MC + PVG)

Had my theory test this morning, first the Pointless Video Game (a.k.a. Hazard Perception Test), which was the one I was nervous about. Happily, with the all the preparation I had, I got 89% . Went straight in for the Multiple Choice and got 100%, so ready to book my training, finally. Relief that’s over, can forget all the stuff I’ve learned

A big thanks to this forum and its contributors for the wealth of information, it all really helped. Now for the hard, but exciting part…

Congratulations on passing your theory test.Im probably thick but what is MC and PGV?
Mike

Multiple Choice.

And

Pointless Video Game.

As per the OP

Oh I am thick. Even got PVG the wrong way round. Mike

Anyway exit good luck with you practical training. Have you chosen a trainer yet?

Got a shortlist, have checked the recommended providers on the forum. Will go for two or three assessment drives first.

Thanks Jen

I know a lot of this information is already elsewhere, but in case it helps anyone looking to do their theory, here are the resources I used:

The Official DSA GUIDE to DRIVING GOODS VEHICLES (could search the net for a pdf)
The Official DSA Theory Test for Drivers of Large Vehicles
The Official DSA Guide to Hazard Perception

Many free HPT videos available here:

learnerdriving.com/hazard-pe … n-test.php (this is probably the best; when you get the results you can click on each video and review where the scoring occurs)

driving-test-success.com/haz … _main.html

theaa.com/aattitude/games/hpt.jsp

2pass.co.uk/mockhazardtest.htm

billplant.co.uk/hazard/hazard.php

With the HPT, do your preparation before attempting the mock tests (read the advice already posted elsewhere), don’t ‘waste’ the mock trials as you only get one ‘first go’; after that you’ll know what to look for so it’s not a proper test (although repeating the test can help you determine the best time window for clicking).

As for technique, I clicked when noticing a hazard ‘developing’ and clicked again shortly afterwards, in case the first click was too early. Some say click three times but you really want to avoid the ‘anti-cheat’, scoring 0 is bad news.

Good luck!

Congrats re your test passes…its all fun till test day now
