The worst job you have had?

DayInTheLife:
Brake brothers was probably the worst job I ever had. The best part about it was going home:

Late loading, fridges that didn’t work properly, vehicles that were past their best, didn’t have the same vehicle every day so the ones you got were invariably full of [zb], drivers that didn’t stop moaning about stuff they could fix if they wanted to, rude and borderline abusive customers, delivery point rarely where you could stop, a fight for trollies in the morning and quite possibly a load of other stuff I forgot to mention.

This ↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑ did 3 years at Tamworth that was enough

Hope 3663 has improved as I am awaiting a job offer from them :frowning:

On the agency last year at Fresh Direct (I enjoyed that food service job), I overheard someone call them 666-3.

Had a few, lets see now … Ocado.com delivering groceries in remote rural villages, in snow, freezing rain, non gritted icy steep lanes till nearly midnight, ■■■■■■■ a dozen plastic boxes 25kgs + of booze, dog/cat food , bottled water up several flights of stairs to apartments with no lifts and only given 7 minutes from arrival to the time you leave per delivery.

Working for a private utility company, handballing 100 road barriers, 30 road cones and 30+ metal road signs, 200kg pecker attachments and also heavy ditching buckets for the excavator in and around muddy building sites.

And last but not least, the place i’m at now, a builders merchant, reversing a 26ton rigid down narrow ginnels and alleyways, where you have to pull both mirrors in to get down, then find you do not have the space to get the leg out and to top it off telephone wires 3 inches above the crane, arsey “two bit” cowboy builders that want the bulk bags of sand next to the mixer, like there life depends upon it, double parked cars on the corners of residential streets. So called transport supervisor ( not a manager, as he isn’t qualified ) constantly trying to overload you. This place really takes the biscuit, absolutely horrendous, only hanging in by the skin of my teeth, till something else crops up, only been there for 5 months and that’s too long.

Got made redundant in 98 & the 2 worst jobs I’ve ever had followed- 1st was for Dominoes, start about 03.00 8 or 9 drops down south, all handball, breaks whilst unloading & a Bloody Noisy Fridge on to of your head (rigid) lasted a month.
!

Was that out of milton keynes ? funnily enough i was considering that

Yep, but that was 15 years ago, out if Tongwell, then they moved to Kingston & last year they moved just behind the stadium.

I’ve heard that it’s a bit easier now some Artics doing the deliveries to the shops double manned, but it’s still handball & you work weekends !!! (Sod that)

Our place are often looking for drivers , class 2 on Palletline work & class 1 on general with the odd night out (maybe once or twice a week)
I prefer general co’s it’s usually 1 or 2 drops & the odd back load. Palletline is multi drop (6 - 10 a day, with a second run if it’s needed.

PM me your number if you’re interested, I’ll give you a call with more details.

Not sure, but I think we get £25 for introducing new drivers ! Lol.
(That’s 12 & a half bottles of Westerns Vintage Cider @ £1.99 a bottle ! YUM !)

Lifeguard at Blackpool sandcastle.
Full of tatooed women and beer bellied parents that think i should get wet because they can’t be arsed to teach their brats to swim.
Well i didn’t get wet, I just shouted “Swim ya fat [zb]”.
Management didn’t like my manner, So they bannished me to the dressing rooms.

Worst job in haulage was with tinnelly transport, I lasted 5 days. It was a case of leave or kill the planner.

+1

Hugely demeaning job

Worst job I had was National Express, worst company I worked for (Selwyns the NatEx co I worked for were a good company) was Nolans by far. I did enjoy the job but the company is run by a bunch of ignorant inbred yokels.

Nope sorry, some jobs better than others but I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad one, some more interesting, some maybe lacking logic in the office, to me that’s just funny.

I don’t like being on call cos I’m not allowed to drink.

Which Selwyns depot did you work at? Runcorn?? I also worked for Selwyns but at Manchester Airport on the air-crew job, occasionally roped into the odd Nat Ex but mainly air-crew.

Was a good job to be honest, but £7 / hr including my ‘shift allowance’ (I did lates) and weekends and even Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day - only to get sacked on the 6th Jan for something that happened on 22nd December :imp:

That was nice of them !
Use you for the Bank Holidays (when they struggle to get drivers) Then Drop you like a Stone, when work drops off a bit.
They should have suspended you on full pay after your shift on the 22nd, to investigate any complaints/misdemeanours’ :imp:

They claim that the complaint never got through to ‘the right people’ until into the new year.

I did an airplane replacement service due to the weather, and 1 of the passengers was drunk, so I refused to take him, the aircrew talked me round.
So I took him and 2 families and 1 couple from Manchester to Heathrow, got there, was unloading the luggage and he started mouthing off, saying I was driving too fast, undertaking, tailgaiting, weaving all over the road, speeding etc etc…
After a few words, he went away, then when I’d finished unloading and was heading back for the door to board the coach, he stood infront of me and told me I couldn’t leave as he’d phoned the police to breath test me :unamused:
After a few more choice words I went to step around him and he put his hand on my chest to stop me, so I flattened him.

He complained about all the above - the families (both had young kids with them) and the couple didn’t.
As far as I was concerned this should have cleared up my driving standard as if I had a young child and anyone was driving badly with them in the vehicle, words would be said.
Anyway, Selwyns didn’t see it this way, and I had a bit of a reputation for being a hot head anyway, so they sacked me and reported me to the TC for ‘assaulting a passenger whilst in service’.

I had to have a brew with the TC (a quite famous one) who basically said “what are you doing here? the journey was ended, they were off the vehicle, that’s the end of that, and they assaulted you first”, but by then I’d already got my HGV so never went back to any PSV / PCV work.

Shame you didn’t refuse him in the 1st place, lesson learned there, with all the other witnesses I reckon the Union would have had a field day with the company, only problem is- Flattening Him isn’t defendable in court (you’re Honour) :unamused:

Don’t think I could drive the General ‘Pubic’s’ around on a bus, its bad enough being cut up by them when your in a wagon, let alone being Face to Face with some of the Slime that think they are part of our society.

Self defense. As soon as he made physical contact with me, I was defending myself, and he was much bigger than me, so I couldn’t risk him getting back up and giving me a pasting ossifer.

I didn’t get the details of the other people on the coach because I didn’t see any point, I didn’t expect him to remember let alone complain, but I guess he woke up the next day with a few bruises and thought “how did this happen?”

My main defense was that he admitted that he tried to prevent me boarding my vehicle - self defense. And that nobody else on the vehicle complained, even though they had much more reason to complain if my driving was below par than a single drunk.
I also think he was only complaining because he’d bought a plane ticket and travelled from Manchester to London on a coach - although I believe they all got refunds too and free food on the coach - which takes a little longer than your average plane
