The worm is turning

Ill 2nd that . Lets hope the truckers dont drive through the picket lines like they did when the miners were out!

Trouble with this country is we have never had a revoloution

Err— We did.
On January 4th, 1642 Charles 1st attempted to arrest five members of parliament. Charles officially began the war by raising his standard at Nottingham in August, 1642.

The majority of the country was neutral in the civil wars, and both sides only had about 13,000 men.

The areas of Royalist support tended to be the North, West and Wales. Parliament were supported by the richer South and East, including London. Parliament also held most of the ports, since the merchants that ran them saw more profit in a parliament-lead country.

Charles 2nd was declared rightful King of England by the newly-elected Convention Parliament on 8 May 1660 and invited to return to England.

willie_mac:
Haulage will never walk out !!!

Nope, we don’t like walking anywhere  :smiling_imp:

I see these walkouts have spread to Scotland and Wales this morning.

Is civil war the same as a revoloution?

yes

better polish me musket then

Yep,pistols at dawn you scoundrel and all that ■■■■.

Anybody remember the Fuel Protest? Did it get any results? Did we (Haulage) get a better deal on fuel tax? Did the Government sit up and listen, and start treating us fairly? Thought so…

Unless these actions are carried through, they will have no effect what so ever, and if the protestors are planning on carrying on, they will soon be threatened with the sack. The replacement workers are already here…

Unless you vote the government out, they will not take a moments notice of your opinion.

You might want to strap in, and prepare for a bumpy ride.

This wasnt long ago ina town close to me.

The funny thing is my Polish mate is starting work there and he will be earning about £10 an hour so the excuse of cheap labour just doesnt work the workers from other countries WILL do things we wont like work up to the waist in muck to get a wage a British worker would complain about it.

Howevere when it comes to British workjers losing their houses and not having jobs because of foreign workers then its time to employ our own people I have nothing against the Poles or other nationalities im an economic migrant to this country myself !!!.

Anybody actually know what this company is building at the plant??

From what I gather they are an Italian company and they are going to use their normal workers for the contract. This is not unusual especially if the work is specialised. Plenty of British companies get specialist work abroad and take their normal workers who know the job.

A new immigration centre.

Does anybody else feel this is going to turn out like the 1980’s with the miner’s strikes and Fleet Street strikes?

I know it is a bit far off but I can see this country being revolutionised and the people taking control in the next few years. I think it is the beginning of the end for a hell of a lot of politicians in this country as people are getting sick and fed up of it all. I can see a lot of industries, including ours, finally sticking together and doing something about it. It just shows that passion is quite high on this emotive subject and a lot of people will not tolerate being shafted any longer. Aren’t we all sick of hearing about foreigners doing our jobs? They aren’t doing our jobs, they are doing jobs that the Brits won’t do because they are lazy. It’s about time this country stuck together for once and banned all immigration (including European) for the next 5 years to get British people back to work. If the haulage industry went in strike I for one would support them. I know I only work the occasional weekends for agencies and one company but believe me if there was a strike then I would not be available until the strike was resolved, it doesn’t matter how skint I got. We NEED to stand together and make the government realise we are ■■■■■■ off with being mugged over and treated like idiots. They need to look back to how much chaos it caused when all the tanker drivers went on strike and how much mayhem that caused for them.

Rant over

Glad you pointed out that small historical fact mate!!! And as Brits we could never quite do it properly…offering to make Cromwell Oliver the 1st!!!

Revolution just isnt the British way…we just stand in queues all day mumbling about the swine who pushed in front. If it does look like the common. man wil rise agianst the Government of the day a handy war comes along to get rid of the possible antagonists and provide work for those that are left by making munitions.

I can see more and more protests happening as the year gets tougher. And those poor soles on the picket line will be accused of being anti this and fascist that whilst simply trying to provide for their families.

this country will be like the balkans in 50 years time, and i dont mean at peace

More likely they will be villified as being ‘filthy racists’ in the media, although some of the more strident ‘red tops’ will stoke the fires from both directions, as usual. Globalisation has run amok in this country and the working man is paying the price. I applaud those people who are standing up to be counted.

I didnt want to mention the dreaded R word!!! Whilst I have said that I can see more of these demos happening they will never have any real power. Not enough people will actually get off their bums and do something about it… Remember the Fair Play For Fuel campaign…I think a lot of British people have given up on Britain.

all this talk of a ‘revolution’…

it’s not the 1600s now, there’s more chance of the haulage industry sticking together and downing tools than their is of this apocryphal predicted ‘revolution’ happening.
