The week just gone - In Pictures

Following on from the success of last weeks diary, here’s one of this week,

Its only pictures i’m afriad, as the reload was from/to the same place as last week and there is only so many pictures you can take of the same route!

However, should be back to normal next week as i’m off out to Effretikon, out towards St.Gallen.

For now, here’s the pictures, Apologies if it bores you.

This week isnt a full diary like last week, as it hs been pretty similar to last week, and that would be pretty boring for you all.

0230 Monday Morning, What a time to start work…

The Sat Nav says its this far from door to door…

An Austrian had dropped his trailer in Custom’s, and returned to find this in his way…

Off the boat and into the glrious French Sunshine.

Following another Truck across the corridor and thru the No Overtaking Zone

However, not all obey the ban…

I have seen these signs for years, and still dont know what they mean!

Coffee stop with Dave and Frank from Belkin.

6x2 Foreign trucks are getting more and more common now…

These signs were all the way down thru the Ardenne’s…

Life dont get any better does it, Glorous sunshine, clear open motorways and cracking music on the iPod.

Pulling off into Wanlin for a Break…

Cappeln is suprisingly empty today…

Approaching the Peage at Carling on the A4.

The Best Place for Smart Cars…

Parked up in the evening Sun at Keskastel…

Heading off into Birsfelden…

Parked up in the LWT Terminal, Muttenz waiting to clear.

Quite a smart 143 Drawbar seen in Muttenz

Heading into Ciba at Kaisten, this bridge thankfully looks lower than it is.

The Swiss love their Level Crossings on main roads…

So the locals can just come round you at their lesuire…

If only the M25 was this quiet in Rush Hour, This is Bern at 830am…

Good to see the Germans like to torture their drivers too, A Renault Premium Drawbar!

Following a struggling RH Stevens Premium up the hill at Saverne…

Passing the large Transallinace Depot at Thionville

Poor Spanish Guy in a flat top FM on transporter work…

Just in time for the 0800 Norfolk Line from Dunkerque.

Some great pictures, the Colmar & Thionville bring back memories of when I worked for Gondrand at their Colmar depot for a couple of years. Is the restaurant at Muttenz (upstairs) still open?? The liver rosti & rice was superb, it wasn’t the cheapest place to eat but back in 1988 / 89 but the quality of the food was excelent & the only thing I didn’t like about the place was the Brit’ drivers moaning about the prices.

I had to go to a local dentist once, the price of a 15 min treatment brought the cost of food into prespective, but it was still far better than the pain I’d been in.

Ross.

Thanks a nice read and great
photos

Nice diary, good pictures.

Keep 'em coming

Nic.

I am using a crappy old Olympus 4 Megapixel thing i have had for about 4 years now. It has been dropped christ knows how many times and its a bit battered and bruised…

I should really treat myself to a new SLR type camera at some point!

As for the Austrian’s trailer, i’m not too sure why it was there TBH.

Life dont get any better does it, Glorous sunshine, clear open motorways and cracking music on the iPod. so true!! kool diary mate

Same camera i have, they are OK in fairness, the SLRs tho , well they are a different class now, snap shutter speed so you catch every movement.Think am gonna get one!

Good set of pic’s mate.
I was down in Swiss again this week, but I didn’t see those pollution speed signs on the way down Monday.

I ran down from Zeebrugge, coming off the P&O from Hull.

I have been known to overtake a slow moving wagon in the Begian no overtaking zones  , especially if I’ve kept a good speed up on those Ardennes climbs. (I want to get down to Basel today, before the border closes :smiling_imp: )

I prefer to stop at Saverne, rather than Keskastel, for a break on the way south. Keskastel is for the northbound run.

The resto’ up-stairs at Muttenz, the Drehsheibe(?), is still going strong Bigr.
I haven’t used it recently, but the food is still good if a little expensive.

Simon

I only stop at Keskastel on the way down if i leave from home, I can do it in 9hrs 40mins from my house, but Saverne is about 10hrs 6mins. Saverne also has a bit of a reputation for getting tuned over, as the bottom car park is quite secluded and dark.

As good as Muttenz is, when your in there week in week out, the Menu does get a bit repetitive, although the food is good.

How about the Routiers at Phalsbourg, guys?
Slap bang between Keskastel and Saverne :sunglasses:

I only use either Saverne or Keskastel for a 45 minute break. I usually get my Vignettes while I’m at Keskastel.

So far, I’m never in the right place at the right time, to stop at the Phalsbourg Routier. If I stopped there, it would be for an overnight.
I’m sure the opportunity will arise sometime.

Simon:
The resto’ up-stairs at Muttenz, the Drehsheibe(?)…

Not sure whether you’re unsure of the name, or the translation.

I’ve never been to Muttenz, so I wouldn’t be able to help with remembering the name, but I do know that “Drehscheibe” can mean ‘turntable’ or ‘hub’ (in an engineering sense.)

 Sorry if I’ve mistaken your meaning.

^^^^^

That would figure, as its actually the LWT Terminal, where lots of vehicles go to clear before delivering, or exporting…

Hi BuzzardBoy, I’m not sure what the ‘LWT’ terminal is, but from the name of the resto, I’d guess there’s some kind of railway terminus nearby?

It looks like a ratchet strap tied to the towing pin would soon remove that bit of concrete from under that trailer

I was in our depot in Azerailles F54 last week, have you seen the rows of new MAN and all the previously used Transalliance fleet parked there?

Sorry to invade the thread with talk of motorbikes but.

Wheelnut, is that your SV with the Akropovic cans?? also, are you thinking of going to your local MotoGP meeting in June ■■ I’ve just had my emtry confirmed for the ‘Thundersport’ GP2 support races at Donnington, we’re qualifying Friday with a race after GP q’fying Saturday and another after the BIG event on Sunday.

If you do make it you’ll have to get into the paddock and track me down, the kettle is always on.

Ross.
