still here !! evry job i seem to find and apply for so do 200 others !! no agency work since xmas …things got to pick up soon, or i can see a career change coming …or going self employed!
Have you got skills in any other field that can get you a job then perhaps do a bit of driving on the odd day off?
None …just hope things will pick up once easters been and gone, really companies can be really pickie at the moment ,as so may unemployed drivers about , what future have all the drivers that i see training got once they pass there tests, i see lots of them on the roads around peterborough .

the only new job to come up on the jobcentre website yesterday was a dodgy job where after only speaking to the guy for what 20 seconds asked when i could leave for europe and that they wanted somebody to leave that day.
Not just me then phoned about a job yesterday, “class1?” yeah. " fine, euro exp?" yeah. “fine. OK, the lorries parked in Nth CP, NEC, can you meet me at Wolverhampton rlwy stn as I’ve got the keys, then go to Dover, catch ferry in morning, up to Kiel and catch cruise ferry to Lithuania, be there for weekend, set up and we’ll check into the hotel, then monday drive to Latvia, set up and we’ll fly you home for the weekend, then back to get the rig to take to Luxembourg” No checks, no nothing When I told him I couldn’t start immediately (have already coomitted to agency, and I don’t let anyone down, got some principles ) “Oh, ok, can you still meet me at Wolverhampton, get keys, go to pick up rig and take it back to yard”
OK, as long as we can make it early, and you refund railfare, plus fare from yard back to origonal start point, ie home, “yeah, no problem”
So far, so good, except he couldn’t tell me the name of the village HE was based/living in, described where it was, but when I told him the name [used to work breakdown/recovery all round there got used to finding places by description] (nowhere near the jobsite address I might point out ) his answer? “no, it’s not a pub”
Now anyone that knows the A5 Oswestry area will know Queens Head yes it the pub name, but it’s also the village name. So, he wants me to pick up a loaded rig from NEC, unaccompanied, and take it to some place that he doesn’t know the name of??
What about money, etc, say I. “Oh we’ll discuss that later, I pay well so don’t worry”
Is it me? does it sound suspicious? Sounded not kosha to me, had a bad feeling about it, call it a gut feeling, but turned him down. I want a job as much as anyone, (according to some on this forum, more than some do) but that gut feeling cannot be ignored
i dont blame you, we dont want to hear about another leon story thats for sure.
Been in the club since Xmas. Passed my Class 2 a year ago and was doing agency work up until Xmas and since then it’s been dead. Also got my Class 1 six months ago but yet to use it, both licences I paid for the training myself. I’m signed up with about 8 driving agencies, been phoning others only to be told they have no work or that they want 2 years experience.
I phoned about a van driving job and was told that you have to be 25+ for insurance purposes (I’m 24). Doesn’t make much sense that I was driving 18 and 26 tonne rigids and I can’t drive a van. Perhaps it’s because it keeps their insurance costs down by only allowing people over 25 to drive their vehicles.
I also phoned up about a 7.5 tonne job that appeared on the internet yesterday evening and when I called this morning the post had already been filled, they said they’d had over 70 applications.
Right now I’m sending off my CV in response to an advert for a Class 2 driver in my local free paper and I’m visiting a company tomorrow to fill out an application form for a Class 1 vacancy they have.
If all else fails I’m going to have to take a warehouse job that I applied for and that I’m going to a job view tomorrow night for to see what it’s like.

I have pretty much been around every place that has trucks in fife and i either hear nothing back, they say they have nothing or im tooyoung and inexperienced, and i dont get job seekers allowence i actually can survive…just with what the agency can give me,
as for that job im not having a leon happening to me, and isnt it a bit dodgy that a company from scotland is going to europe to do tar work?
and as for turning down work, i never turn down work hell ive even done a few stints unloading containers and this was as recent as janurary, how many class 1 drivers would unload 40ft conainers?

point is who would purely go to work just to empty a container, not drive the container to the place then empty it, just purely empty,t hen reload it with pretty much everything youve taken out.
young and cocky, you dont even know me so how can you tell im cocky?
and you say i turn down work because im not gonna get behind the wheel? get real ive never turned down a shift with any of the agencies when it was offered, i work my arse off when i go to work for somebody and im always asked for by the company when they phone the agencies,
since i passed my car test or since my hgv test? please remember ive been driving since i was 12, im 23 in a month passed when i was 17
well since my car test take about 7 weeks of non driving work from 6 years of driving so quite a bit,
since my hgv again take 7 weeks off 19 months and youve got the answer,
the only reason i dont get out in a class one up here is due to my age, though i have been out in the and no im not counting my lessons.
im not scared of working, but if you think that cause i turned down a dodgy job then {zb} you, i really do not want a gun pointed to my head by some toe rag gypsy {zb}. i may be desperate for work but i quite enjoy living thank you very much.
and if theres soo much work out there then please show me where i can find it?

mate this is a recession. companies are paying off drivers & staff right left & center. theres hardly any jobs available at the moment, and gogzy is in the boat that hes too young for most peoples insurance! most companies want 25 & 2 years driving experience.
