143 streamline is one of my all time favourite trucks, they just look and sound so perfect. I never drove a V8 3 series but did have a 360 for a while and did have a 164 500 so did get to scratch the V8 itch I suppose.
Out of the really old stuff I’d love to have a go in a scammel crusader just because I vaguely remember my dad coming home in one before he set of to Iran and thinking how massive it was!
I thought the 164 was only 480 or 580 ? Didnt the 500 come in on the R series?
I don’t know but it had a 164 and a 500 badge up front. Maybe it was a 144? It was a 55 plate V8 so had a proper gearbox which is all I cared about and wish I still had it.
The dream truck always has been a 143. I’ve driven one once, and would happily move into one right now. My first (allocated) motor was a 144 530, 4x2. Went like a bullet, nothing since has been a patch on it. Think I suffered from the trucking equivalent of premature ■■■■■■■■■■■

I was pretty lucky when it comes to the 143, when i first started on my own my dad sold me a truck to get me going, it was a J reg Scania 143 centurion with twin eminox stacks which i paid the princely sum of £5000 for , it went like the clappers and never let me down once in 3 years, a lad in Ireland is restoring it at the moment, i might see if i can buy it back when its done
Call me new age, but I’ve never understood people who are obsessed with rusting old heaps of crap, whether it be cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, or whatever. Unreliable, uncomfortable, noisy, dirty, expensive… People in such machines probably think they look the dog’s ■■■■■■■■ driving around in them, but I think they just look naff!
Leather seats/sat nav/reversing sensors/camera/cruise control and a nice, new, technologically advanced, hyper reliable engine all the way for me, and I’m not sorry if that makes me boring!
Pretty optimistic, but no point in dreaming small! However the one lorry I wish I’d had the chance to drive is the mighty 141, I had a couple of 111s and they were good lorries, I’ve had the V8 in 142s, 143s and 144s, but missed out on a 141.

Point is mate when I started it was a modern motor, not a rusting heap of crap, and pure luxury compared to the Bedford TK that I drove at the time
I dont know how long you have been driving but I look forward to the nostalgic thread that you start in 30 years time, with the photo of you stood in front of an Actros Giggaspace
The volvo fmx I drive now is the ultimate tool for my job and I couldn’t think of a better lorry to drive.
However I’d love a day of clear roads and good weather in a volvo f16
I guarantee that in 30 years’ time, I’ll have completely forgotten about the FH16s of the past as I stand next to my spanking new Scania P10000 which sounds the alarm 10 minutes before destination so I can watch it park itself safely. Fitted with warp drive as standard

Hiya mate, First artic I drove was a Magirus Deutz belonged to an owner driver mate. Way ahead of it’s time.
Had an F10 and a 3300 in the past, but the other motor I wanted but never got apart from the 88, was the Ford Transcon, iconic motor, and again ahead of it’s time.
McGawn of Maybole’s tidy old working N reg 143 streamline was in fuelling up at Monkton services today. The V8 sounded amazing through its twin eminox stacks when he took off. That’s music I don’t think I’d ever tire of hearing.[emoji5] [emoji5] [emoji5]
