The "Shorts" straw at Montgomery

Harry Monk:
Office staff don’t like to see drivers wearing shorts on a hot day because shorts are obviously more comfortable than long trousers, and office staff aren’t allowed to wear shorts because of office dress code. …

Went for interview this morning… me in smart A&F shirt… 501 levis… (with work clothes in car  )

Interviewed by TM in shorts and T shirt :unamused:

I trust you declined any job offer?

Did he ■■■■! He cut off those Levi’s until his arsecheeks were hanging out the bottom, and opened up the bottom of his shirt and tied it knot to show he was already a budding member of the team…

I can not see any problem with wearing shorts in hot weather, customer’s premises or otherwise, as long as they are clean and tidy.
It’s appropriate dress that is all :bulb: …, it’s a bit like not being allowed to wear waterproofs when it’s ■■■■■■■ down, because of some pretentious view from some ■■■■, that it is not professional or something equally as ridiculous.
It’s a horses for courses situation, when it’s cold, wrap up, wet, waterproofs, hot…shorts. …aka common sense.

I am not sure which is more of a shock:

  1. This guy contacted a newspaper about this non-event
  2. The newspaper ran a story on this non-event
  3. People are talking about this non-event

If you want to work for a particular company then you abide by their rules. He should know that :unamused:

What’s with grown men wearing short trousers anyway? Do they drink skinny lattes as well? And use organic beard oil?

I have a morbid aversion to my own legs, you’d have to fight me kicking and screaming to wear a pair of shorts, I don’t even like three quarters.

My legs can blind a person at twenty paces…

'‘I take pride in my appearance when I’m working’

That’s pride in his appearance? Good grief. As for saying it’s still not great even with aircon he sounds like a right moaner.

All the trucks I’ve driven the aircon worked brilliant!!!
Now try driving a coach owned by one of the big bus companies and having a 49 seater with aircon blowing like an asthmatic hamster and the company saying you have aircon you’ve still got to wear a tie in 30 degree heat - but if we were driving normal buses then no tie :unamused:
But all the other companies to do with the big F in circle (bus and rail  ) have been told no ties…

Try telling a driver over here not to wear shorts when it’s hot. He didn’t look so bad apart from the fact he wasn’t wearing a 3 piece suit and bow tie. I’ve carted scrap, handballed on in fact and no one batted a bloody eye lid. Too much namby pamby nanny state influence there.

G’day cobber. Good on ya. Throw another shrimp on the Barby mate.

The story even made Classic fm news this morning at 8am. Says he’s going to appeal.

Harry Monk:
Office staff don’t like to see drivers wearing shorts on a hot day because shorts are obviously more comfortable than long trousers, and office staff aren’t allowed to wear shorts because of office dress code. Therefore they try to prevent drivers from being any less uncomfortable than they are but dress it up as “Health and Safety” because that sounds better than saying “we are petty and vindictive”.

Yep, and there lies the same reason we have to sit in waiting rooms etc. As for the shorts though, if I’m on day work, I wear combats with zip off lower legs. Handy if you get sent to a no shorts zone. As soon as you’re on the road, off they come

And get them fried onions going in a drop of beer.

One of our drivers got kicked off a Freightliner container terminal recently for wearing shorts. One of the crane drivers saw him, stopped what he was doing to report him & our driver was then escorted off site.

I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. How is the driver endangering himself by wearing shorts when climbing out of his cab to fasten 4 twistlocks? :unamused:

Bet you’re allowed to wear a t shirt though.are bare arms less dangerous than bare legs?

Never had a conversation with boss over uniform , Fred Perry and trousers is alright with me , only out there for 8 hrs so it’s not as though it’s a hardship

We go to a couple of places where you have to have your arms covered. ( Usually chemical type places, Univar etc ).

Could wear Speedos to work and i don’t think my gaffer would bat an eyelid.

But maybe his Mrs would [emoji6]
