Portugal coming out of Communist rule and a need to import export saw a market open up for hauliers. As I recall, permits were highly sought after and only a few companies ventured there back then. Anyone interested in this will know the players. I remember it as a tough old route , no IP 5 autoroute or autoroute at all for that matter early on… and hours or days spent clearing in Lisbon or Oporto. A Government Guard would accompany you to tip and load…
