Going to The Dolgarrog Aluminium Factory in N-Wales tomorrow, what’s the best route
A55-A470-B5279-B5106 (B5279 crosses a railway and the river conwy)
or
Into Conwy and head out on the B5106
Don’t go into Conwy. You won’t get through the castle wall on the south side of town as it’s about 12ft tall and 6ft wide. My Old Dear lives there and I know Conwy well.
You’ll either need to take the A548 from Abergele to Llanwrst and up the B5106 or you could chance the A470 and B5279 but I have a sneaking suspicion there’s a low weight limit on the bridge over the river and a width restriction too if I’m thinking of the right bridge. Don’t quote me though, I could well be wrong but zooming in on the map I’m fairly sure it’s that one.
Personally I’d take the A548 as it’s about the same as the A470 in terms of width and quality. Steady away in an artic, then through Llanrwst and up the B5106 that way.
No, no ,no
Sorry to directly contradict you Rob,
but you’re wrong.
Best way for you Joe, and the way all trucks get to Dolgarrog (and have done for years) is off the A55 at Black Cat (jct. 19 I think) onto the A470 through Glan Conwy in the direction of Llanrwst. When you reach Tal y cafn, (big pub/ hotel on your right) turn right onto B5279 and go across the level crossing and the river bridge - no weight or width limits at all.
Turn left onto the B5106, a couple of miles to Dolgarrog and Aluminium factory is on your left, (big(ish) place - you won’t miss it !)
I would however, agree with Rob with the bit about avoiding Conwy town itself.
Cheers Graham, thats the way I was hoping I could get to Dolgarrog Rob’s route seems very scenic and nice…but
No problem.
