The road so far

They say people have career changes at 30 and i’m no exception.
When I left school I went straight to college and became an apprentice painter and decorator.
This is currently still my job.
However, a couple of years ago paint manufactures had to change the formulas of their paint to reduce odours. This is good for the enviroment and general public but unfortunately for me they added something which i’ve since found out i’m allergic to.
Now it’s time to change careers.
The only other thing I know other than painting is driving. Afterall I had to get to work!
I’ve always liked driving and it seems it runs in the family as my father was a lorry driver and my brother is too.
I’ve ordered the application forms a few times in the past but never followed through with it. Now I have the motivation and determination to start a new career driving trucks!

Well as i see it, you may as well go for it, its not life threatening having and hgv licence and if you really hate the job after you start driving at least you can say you had a go, im in a similar situation too, i have been working on mostly agricultural stuff since i was 16 and quite frankly i have had enough of the ■■■■ and fancy doing a driving job to see how it goes, only trouble is at the moment i have plenty of work and mostly good paying customers, but im thinking life is too short to do something that you have had enough of just because its the sensible thing to do. Good luck to you anyway !

Have you asked your father and brother what they think?

They both agree that it depends on the conpanies you work for and the trucks you drive. Other than that it has its ups and downs just like any job but is rewarding in a way that you get out and about instead of being stuck in the same place day in day out.

All I can add is you will never know until you try and may well regret not doing so  I got my licences and have never regretted it , (well maybe when it teaming down and the winds howling and im trying to pull the curtains without doing a mary poppins  )
go for it you might just like it

Give it a go and see what happens. I started at 47 and have had some ■■■ jobs. But now most of my work is C+E and I love it. Kid in a sweet shop now…
