Don’t even think of starting that argument !!!

The Volvo FM fire appliance in the A&P yard pics is from the Hebburn station or Tango as we call it, no sign of the lads probably having a cuppa somewhere! These new vehicles are poor compared to the older Volvo appliances we still have, our ex Volvo fitters blame the Renault connection but I think its just a sign of the times. Scanias also are not as well made or reliable as the early days, maybe time to re-introduce some old British makes, we only just got rid of an old ‘A’ reg Dennis with the noisest Perkins V8 I’ve ever heard but you couldn’t break it and I was still able to get a good 70mph out of her, here she is below in her previous days as a Foam Tender, later it was converted to a flat and had a Moffett Mounty on the back end. Cheers Franky.

there were two , you just cant see the other one cos of the angle of the picture , the lads were suiting up to do an inspection just round the corner … regards Duncan

Aye Duncan, the crews prefere doing those sort of jobs to the many home visits they have to do today, fitting smoke alarms and other fire prevention schemes, bit of a victim of their own success though as we have fewer fires and with the cut backs the top brass are thinking of ways to trim vehicles and men. Its a bit like cutting down on the armed forces though, just when you need them there aren’t as many as previously available. Franky.
