My local free paper ran the following story, which for a change paints at least one lorry driver in a good light.
" Sutton Valence cenotaph could be on the move."
“The memorial to the village’s war dead, at the junction of Headcorn rd and Chart rd has been hit so often that the parish council is considering relocating it.
In the first of three incidents already this year, the lorry driver who clipped the ragstone wall around the monument was so devastated that he knocked at a number of nearby houses until he found someone with whom he could leave his details.”
Article then mentions moving the memorial and lorries turning into what is really an unsuitable narrow road which doesn’t actually go anywhere useful and is bad enough in a car.
Continues…" In early february, a lorry from E & R Moffat Ltd of Bonnybridge, demolished the ragstone wall. Before it could be repaired, the wall was hit a second time. Local contractor ■■■ said: ’ I’ve repaired the war memorial five times in two years. Last time I repaired it on the Wednesday and it was hit again on the Thursday. The Scotsman was absolutely devastated by what he had done and went to a lot of trouble to leave his details.’ "…
Good on yer mate.
If anyone knows the firm perhaps they could pass on the mention of appreciation from Kent.
