So here I am watching Tony Robinsons Gods and Monsters on More 4.
And they’re talking about Fairies abducting children, these faries weren’t the sweet little things of tinkerbell in Peter Pan, but more evil and mischief making. (stick with me people and the connection with trucking will become clear 
)
Such was the fear of a child being abducted and replaced by a changeling, that steps were taken to protect the child.
One of the steps was to draw a chalk ring around the cradle, 
Such is the belief in a power of the chalk ring that these stories have developed over hundreds of years of telling and now are told by the traveling mistrals who frequent the waiting rooms of RDC’s with tales of their travels to far flung and mysterious places, such as RDC that imprison drivers in and boats that can carry many thousands of trucks, but some magical power means that the chosen ones miss it on the night it sinks.
But I’m not so sure of the effectiveness of the chalk ring though, as most of the the drivers telling these tales are defiantly away with the fairies.
