The (not so) Great Italian Truck Strike

Good morning and welcome from the Area Servizio Ceriale Truck Refugee Camp 70Km from the Italian / French border at Ventimiglia. Please dig deep into your pockets and hearts as we are in desperate need of lap dancers, beer, er… beer and well beer!

Seriously though Ive been here since 1300 hrs Monday and its unreal, Im on the services, but there are trucks parked in lane one on the west bound carrigeway as far as the eye can see in both directions. We have been told that there no chance of moving till Friday at the earliest.

What would be useful is if anyone has any info or updates on the situation they could post them here - I will check back twice a day - quickly though as 3G connections cost an arm and a leg!!

Thanks in advance - PS anyone like pizza?

HAVE just been reading on a site one of the
english papers from ITALY; it seems that the
Italian Goverment told the transport to return
to work as items such as food, fuel are running
out due to no deliverys happening ,furtheremore
FIAT has had to close somefactorys due to shortage
of parts , this also is happening in other branches
ofthe industry,THE strike when I have understood
the report correctly is one abou ,asking the goverment
to help outwith the riseing costs which have occurred
due to the high ful costs,Be prepared for problems when
the strike is at a end as the roads will full of like minded people
with one thought in there heads ,HOME and as fast as one
can drive

Hi Hombre,
I have trucks struck in Italy at Ancona and Prato and swiss border/Chiasso since Monday lunch time !
There was a meeting today between the government and unions and according to Reuter’s news tonight the strike is now finished !!! but, I have just spoken to my drivers and they are still parked up ?

hiya, just got home now,on tuesday i was in the treviso area and got stopped on the national, managed to sneak out but had trouble tryin to get back to motorway (A4) to get to my 2nd in verona,it was all blocked at padover and vicenza, they were now blocking the motorway exits and motorway lanes,i managed to charge through a gap they left for buses.
they seem to be targetin places key places of course cos some exits are clear, all garages in milan yesterday at about 3 a.m where choca with cars.
but be careful cos they are gettin violent,my dad was also near treviso and wouldnt stop for them, they chased him in a car an lobbed a brick at the screen and naturally legged it true itie style, heard today via a freind back home that theres no fuel and low on food.
Gonna try and contact italian embassy today and try to find out more.

have read that the strike is over, how ever you will find that
the swiss borders are still full also on the swiss site the
transit roads and park areas are fullof lorrys tryng to pass
through to italy.IN the italian paers yesterday was a report
about drivers who treid to break the strike being attacked
and stopped from moveing, also the fuel tankers were
being escorted to the areas where the fuel is required.

Looks like there’ll be plenty of overtime for the petrol tanker drivers then :grimacing:

I was caught-up in one of these strikes in the 80’s, this one doesn’t seem much different. :frowning:
I was inbound about 4km from Aosta Autoport when it all came to a standstill back then.
IIRC, it lasted about 4 or 5 days and involved similar issues… :frowning:
