The next EU transport comissioner

is going to be Romanian. Seeing as how the UK is not due to leave anytime soon, what’s your opinion?

My thoughts: she probably doesn’t even have a class 2 license :smiling_imp:

Do you think she needs one ?

She probably won’t have a Pilots Licence or Train Drivers Licence or Bus Drivers Licence or Pilots Licence or Ships Captains Licence either so that pretty well gives equality to all the transport sectors

She’s a career politician.

Coming from there she will be very experienced in begging and coning people top of the range education

God help us !!

Do you honestly believe she’ll be any worse than any of the shower of ■■■■ that run this country these days?

Can’t see the requirement to have an HGV licence being a requirement, as has been said its a wide portfolio and I also doubt she is qualified to do other jobs and does being able to fly a truck or drive a plane make you able to push the transport policy.
More of a worry to me is the way these people get their jobs, especially the president of the commission. These aren’t civil servants their job is to introduce legislation, in the UK, as we’ve seen in recent days, that falls to an elected chamber normally lead by the elected government, not the civil service. Also the past of some of those who have been appointed to the commission could do with some scrutiny, but this doesn’t happen and not a lot we can do if it does, except wait 5 years for the next round of appointments.

Expect to see the fastrack removal of cabotage restrictions high on the agenda. :open_mouth:

Romanian Alex who is a 23 year old I work with used to work in IT back in Romania doing networking and the like so we get on well. Earns nearly 4 times what he did driving on agency here. Worked his way across Europe to get to the UK, driving for various companies on his way across.

I have to say that the view people have of Romanians and other Eastern Europeans being thick is quite disgusting especially in haulage where there’s quite a few of our own who aren’t the brightest bulbs in the pack.

Mind you when he’s showing you photos of him going up the Danube in his boat I often say he is mad coming here. He did however confirm that when Top Gear was in Romania going down the crap roads that that wasn’t just staged it really is like that out of the major cities.

Hopefully, he/she will rescind the stupid rules on sleeping in the cab for a 45, hopefully, will change the hours rule where a driver is practically forced to work a 15 hour day …hopefully will also outlaw 9 hour rests, and put in place a 12 on 12 off…cant see cabotage rules being changed, but possibly a decent minimum wage across the board, but not sure thats even gonna work, seeing as theres 27 other countries to veto or possibly cant afford bearing in mind the differences in economies…maybe look into motorway tolls, as there used to be a rule where a country can only charge IF theres an alternative route…ie A roads and the like. once again, different countries having their own rules…apart from that…hope they will se the discrimination between east and west, and possibly force to implement more parking places as no one thought about that when inviting more and more into the club they call the eu.
