There has been a programe on telly for a while called COUNTRYSIDE RESCUE covering the Police, Fire service. Ambulance,Coastgaurd, and Helicopter rescue.2 policemen were doing a roadside check
and a large tractor pulling a tri-axle plant trailer loaded with lengths of plastic drain pieping goes past young guy driving it that busy on the phone does’ny notice the police so they follow him and pull him further up the road tries telling them no was’ny on the phone I dont have one then it was o there is a company phone but no I was’ny on it then admits there was a text message came on it any way it turns out he has only been driving for a year and has 3 points police point out you are now going to have 6. I would say this lad would be eighteen and this is where I cant understand why the law allows someone on the road with an outfit like this with a meer tractor license length wise it was longer than your average 8 wheeler so why allow youngsters to drive something this size surely these larger tractors should come under the LGV banner. Eddie.
Maybe the young lad has been driving them since he could reach the pedals.
No laws need changing, Just attitudes need changing.
I’d probably trust the young lads skills much more than someone that has a shiny new lgv c+e licence, Just like i’d trust someone to run a haulage company with years of experience at the family firm, Rather than some snot nosed kid out of university with a shiny new degree in logistics and supply chain management.
hiya you can take your test in a tractor when your 16. the law states you cant run no more the 26 tons gross.
a pal of mine, his son passed his test a couple of years ago, he runs to work about ten miles every day. he drives
through a busy town in cheshire every morning driving at a brisk 20 mph. yes he dose the rush hour at night as well.
I bet they love him around there.
John

Aye the speed that some o these bigger tractors can get upto makes you wonder in an emergency could they stop them but it will take a really bad accident before anybody takes any notice.Eddie.

The tractors may have air brakes but most of the trailers don’t, same as no need for service or MOT. Most run way over loaded, you can have a trailer carrying maybe 18 tons with a 10 ton tractor 5 ton trailer so 33 ton only allowed 24400 so 9 over. Would you get away with that on your wagon?

Lol:-)
I believe HGV in Swiss is 18 & those massive coaches 21.
Was a accident in pencoed with tractor and trailer hit a micra with a granny in
.the driver had no licence or insurance, the paramedics were there nearly 3 hours, the traffic cops turned up ,and i think it bankrupt the farmer the gross train weight was well over the counter weight on the tractor was inside the micra,s boot!
This happened next to the train station in pencoed could have been really nasty if it was hit onto the train tracks…the law will change when it,s to late.

Nope. No change in law needed. Full stops and capital letters are still permitted to make up sentences. Other punctuation marks are available.
Punctuation whats this the latest jargon for a PUNCTURE. Sorry to have upset you with my lack of punctuation or whatever but many many moons ago when I did attend school to be honest I could’nt be haterd with it and was glad to be left it so I will continue to write my posts as I feel fit and if all you have to do is pick faults on other peoples posts then you are a gie sad man. Eddie.
Missed a coma out there.
OH deary me Harry I will get pulled up again. Eddie.

Driving without licence or insurance and overloading are illegal anyway - changing the law wouldn’t affect that.
A coma? Or was it a comma? Two completely different concepts…
I started driving at 16 on a new tractor and tandem tipper trailer running at 18 tonne did that for 2 years doing a lots of different loads local, internal and up to 50 miles away great fun.
I think the problem with giving 16 year olds a licence to drive large vehicles such as tractors is that they all off sudden think there king off the road and probably not quite mature enough to appreciate the responsibility that comes with taking such vehicles on to a public road there are a lot off tractors round here and the younger lads fly up and down the lanes don’t seem to ease up for blind bends and generally think they own the road I think it’s a lack off experience and they need to realise that driving theese things isn’t cool and hard it’s a job and no ones really that impressed, I know all this because when I was 18 and done my 7.5 tonne I thought my nuts where bigger then red rums 5 wing mirrors later and a massive dented ego I decided to grow up
