Just wondering if anyone else thinks that the km is different in different countries? Is it just me or is the French KM longer than anyone else’s? The Dutch Km seems to be the shortest to me. The German Km is probably about right? This could be just me having a little bit too much time on my hands. Please feel free to throw rotting veg at me if I am being stupid.
Definition of a Kilometre:
Metre: symbol m. The SI unit of length defined as the length equal to 1 650 763.73 wavelengths in a vacuum of the rediation associated with the transition between the levels 2p10 and 5d5 , of the Krypton 86 atom. The wavelength of this atom is 605.8 nanometres.
X 1000
(PS: The original metre was measured using a bar of platignum but that changed with time and tempreture so was not accurate)
whats a kilometer, ive only just got used to going decimal.Them were the days beer 1/11p a pint.
Petrol 11p a GALLON !!!

Someones been at the Google toolbar again haven’t they
I find that in France, a town might be signposted as 200km away.
10 km further on, it has become 205km away.
Another 5km on, and it is 170km away.
And so on, until you get there.

I think this should have been posted on April 1st
And I thought it was just Ireland who couldnt decide whether to use miles or Kilometres on the signs.
In France you often see signs marked in minutes

They have decided, its Kilometres in Ireland now, where they’ve got round to changing the signs.

kenny manning are you the same who used to live in braintree the motto was no road to rough no muf to tough all best egg
The french measured the circumference of the earth then divided by 40000 to get a kilometre. Unfortunately their measurements were slightly off.
According to the theory of relativity your rate of time is directly proportional to your rate of speed, therefore the faster you go, the slower time passes, if you are giving it big licks with the fuse out down those french autoroutes that could explain the change in your rate of time. N.B. As you approach the speed of light time will slow to a stop BUT your weight will increase and approach infinity which is probably a big fine in france. Also the shortest route between two points will cease to be a straight line (Pythagoras was wrong) and you will need to switch to country lanes to get there quicker. Do you have a white Scania?
