The irony is strong with this lot

Eddie Stobart leading the way…

:unamused:

“By reminding our drivers of the correct behaviours to follow at multiple times during their shift, though branded posters and reusable coffee cups, air fresheners, key rings and vinyl stickers for their cabs, we hope to keep them ‘bridge aware’ at all points of their journey.”

Indoctrination by repetition, I’m sure they tested this theory on Monkeys first…

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH…think maybe it was Network Rail that thought they had better speak to someone at Stobrats, not the other way round

toolkit…from the poundshop.costs.£1.00

if you need anything more complicated, your either a ■■■■■■,or working for stobarts.
how simple does it need to be without the blurb from that pish?

If Stobbies that’s keen on avoiding height issues why can’t they just install height detector at each depot that displays what height trailer is at!

Couple of RDC’s I deliver to have them and they are a useful aid

■■■■ sure cheaper in long run than all these gubbins they want to hand out!

Monkeys would actually pick it up quicker. Theres no substitute for plain old common sense…

Don’t stobbarts have a rail section. Not sure what they do…but if it’s track repairs after a bridge strike
Surely if they prevent there’s drivers hitting a low.bridge it will affect this side of there business

Good old Stobbies, brilliant idea. :sunglasses:
Next week they’re reminding their drivers in a memo to dress in a morning, brush their teeth and change their undercrackers daily.
They’re also supplying them with a cd which says ‘‘breathe in…breathe out’’ on a constant loop.

You couldn’t make this ■■■■■■■■ up,.wtf has this job come to when drivers have to be guided like ■■■■ babies as the only means of ensuring that they are doing their job properly and efficiently. :unamused:

Whatever happened to professionalism and common sense in this job, and when did we start handing out Class 1s like confetti to ■■■■ chimps. :unamused:

You have to blame the Human Rights Act, Political correctness and all the various act of parliament regarding discrimination for a start.

I think it has more to do with years of deskilling, thus saving money because higher paid skilled workers can be replaced with lower paid unskilled workers.
It’s what happened to the Luddites, (now used as a derogatory term, but then history is written by the victors.) but with automations looming maybe we should look back at what the Luddites were trying to protect and trying to stop.

Come on now let’s not go on a rant about ‘the job these days’ when, between 1995 and 2003 there was an average of 1,600 bridge strikes a year- compared to about 2,000 a year nowdays with more vehicles on the roads. Nothing has changed that much. There will always be idiots in every line of work.

Some really amazing information there :-

“statistics show the majority of vehicles that hit railway bridges are Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs).”

Might another statistic be that a significant proportion of those HGV’s are a are sort of green colour ? :unamused:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

dumbing the job down so that any dimwit can plough through their shift seems to be the way it works for lots of major players.
look at kfc,macdonalds,asda,tesco ect.
there is a logic in doing so,but its a pity they try to indoctrinate truckies using the same rules.

Perhaps they’ve been paying a ‘bridge bonus’

Its pretty difficult to hit one in a car or on a bike.

Firstly who tf is ‘‘ranting’’ exactly ?
I’m giving my opinion of the way that I personally see things.
I can go back a bit further than 95/03, I aint armed with any stats but I have eyes, drivers have been dumbed down as much as the actual job has.
I am not specifically referring to the dumbasses who hit bridges either.
It has got to the stage now in many cases where many drivers can not do the job unless they are spoon fed every detail, initiative is a word they can’t even spell let alone practice.

A classic example…If some of these guys had to go 20 miles out of the yard without their 300 quid sat navs for example virtually telling them every detail except when and where to wipe their arses they would be totally Donald Ducked.
They just blag every aspect of the job from day to day.
Thankfully they are still in the minority, but their numbers have definitely increased since the years you mention.
The industry is awash with these wastes of skin, and your claim of ‘‘Nothing has changed that much’’ is totally incorrect imo.
