Don’t know about you, but if I had a Transport Cafe why tf would I shut at 4pm.
The Chalet at Cowfold is (or was, aint been past for ages) the same, it does not make sense to me especially as both have overnight parking facilities.

Because, unlike truck drivers, cafe staff won’t work 15 hour days. To open later would mean taking on a second shift. I guess breakfasts are easier and more profitable than dinners.
Stopped on Saturday (close at 13.00), had a breakfast, nothing spectacular, but good nosh at reasonable price. I like the bucket that your tea is served in (those mugs are huge…) .
Owner said they are looking at opening maybe on Sundays too.
Use it or lose it.
The first time I went in there was in 78 with my mate on a trip away with him before I started driving.
As far as I remember the cafe was further towards the lay by, and he had pigeon sheds around the back. It was a real good cafe even then.
I believe it burned down and was replaced by the present building.
A bit of totally useless info for everybody.

Used to be known as “the pigeon fanciers”, bungalow next door still keeps pigeons, was a wooden hut but as Rob said re-built in early 90’s? Struggled to find a seat in there in 80’s when the steel and coal boy’s was doing the stuff from South Wales.
I used to go in there in the late 80’s when I was working for Glyn John Transport we used to refer to it as brian’s.

When you were on Glyn Johns, did you know a guy on a F88 who used to carry a set of bongos with him, and play them when he parked up?
I got a lift off him once, nice guy but mad as a box of frogs
