Hiya,
Well to all you caravan haters out there, I’ve sold my tourer, and no I never hampered
any of you big fellah’s quite the reverse in fact you tended to get under my feet on a
single carriageway road system, now if I can persuade the missus to let me get rid of
the family car would be the icing on the cake I mainly use the bus nowadays so for me
it would be no real hardship, walking is supposed to be beneficial anyway.
thanks harry, long retired.
Harry, if you got rid of granddads taxi you would not be able to to do the school run, shame, Regards Kev
Harry don’t forget your flu jab before winter sets in, Otherwise you may have to buy extra Malts to combat any colds you may get Eh, Ha Ha, Ive had mine to-day Plus a one for Shingles, Whatever will they come up with next, Malts on prescription would be nice wouldn’t it , Regards Larry.
no chance of me getting rid of the car , i’m too idle to walk to the bus stop these days . i need it anyway to drag the caravan on holiday and to ferry her ladyship wherever i’m told to go . it was her 70th this week and she decided not to renew her driving license ( the roads will be a lot safer now ), so i am full time pilot now . cheers , dave

Hiya,
Kev the little uns’ school is only a very short walk from my front door, she’s 9 next month
and her Mum says that now she can make her way to our house under her own steam so I
will only have to feed her and her older sister 12 who travels to and from school by bus
It still means we’ve got to be “on station” between the hours of 3.30pm to 5.30pm which
is Monday until Friday and I suppose will be a bit restrictive for a while yet.
thanks harry, long retired.
Hiya,
Ah’, but Ang there’s a big difference in ages, you’re still a chick and I still enjoyed
driving when I was your age, but now the car I find is just an unnecessary expense
I won’t be allowed to get rid of the car, all I get well it does come in handy so the
“boss” will make sure it stays but the road fund licence on my car which is only a 1.
6 litre but having a sporty engine it is high on emissions so costs £260 a year, a pal
who lives across the street from me drives a 2 litre job pays £35 a year he drives
multi thousand miles a year I’m lucky if I do one thousand now, it’s a racket.
thanks harry, long retired.
£280 last year for mine, £350 insurance, £6+ a gallon for diesel. It’s an expensive luxury BUT, It’s mine, it’s bought and paid for, all my working life I’d wanted a Jaguar but could never afford one. I’ve got one now and I’m keeping it.

Hiya,
Did own a couple of the old Mk1 Jags in years gone by, “cheap as chips in those days”, too
expensive to run and always at the back of the dealers yard and usually for nowt and they
were rot boxes as well and expensive to repair the dealers would often nearly pay you to
take them away, sadly I never tucked them away in a nice dry place they are fetching a
mint nowadays I’ve also owned an Aeriel Square Four and a Vincent Black Shadow both if
tidy and running worth a fortune, alas but having tired of them moved them on usually at
a small profit, if I’d kept them I could have been quite wealthy instead of a poor pensioner
the story of my life should read, “if only”.
thanks harry, long retired.
Had our flu jabs last Saturday morning. Still got two Mercedes, one a Sprinter with the five cylinder engine, and the other a 2.2 travel-liner which will do 40mpg, not bad for two ton vehicle. My camera person has a nice Ford Fiesta,so I should really sell my older Sprinter, as I am not doing as much mileage as I used to.
Cheers Dave.
get rid of the spare van , sell the fiesta and buy the camera person a bike and half your expenses saved at a stroke . the only drawback might be the stroke she could catch you with something heavy . the other plan would be , sell the van and the fiesta and buy tracey a fuel efficient low tax car . cheers , dave

Hi Dave,
Her Fiesta is quite good on fuel, and is as new condition. As for a bike, she had a new bike a few years ago, but it isn’t very safe to ride a bike around here.So she sold it She prefers to take the dog out for a walk… Should sell my older van, but as I bought it new, am a bit reluctant to sell it for the money it would fetch.
Cheers Dave.
Norman Ingram:
Don’t think about money Dave if it is taking up room or in the way get rid of it for the best you can
Its not taking up room Norm. I have a big drive with plenty of room to park. I use both vans, otherwise I would sell it, but it won’t make a lot of money, and its in good condition.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya,
I suppose a spare vehicle is really a must for you Dave should anything need
doing to your regular van that would take a little while to sort out at least a
standby is available, but getting your good lady a pedal cycle is a good idea
you could carry it in the back of the Merc just in case you find a nice place
to park you can always tell the young lady to nip away on the bike to the
nearest fish and chip shop to get you some dinner, not forgetting to take a
camera in case she spots some goodies on the way, but you could be a true
gentleman and only park on nice level going and only when it’s a nice day.

The camera person would tell me where to go, in no uncertain terms Harry if I suggested that. She sold her bike a couple of years ago. To be honest one van would be sufficient now Harry, as I don’t do half the mileage I was doing, and if a big breakdown happened, there are plenty on the market these days.
Cheers Dave.
Dave the Renegade:
Double post, sorry Harry.
Cheers Dave.
Hiya,
Double post, they all count on the score sheet Dave, Just a thought mate is
getting a van adapted to your needs a quick job or is it a case of “when” ■■.

Not a quick job if you buy new Harry, but there are quite a few Mercedes travel-liners about which are ex Motability lease hire which are already kitted out with a lift and hand controls, and some have the EZ locking system to lock a wheelchair in to drive from. The one I bought last year had a six way transfer seat in it, as have quite a few. I got a mechanic to take that out and move the locking system into the drivers position.
This vehicle is the best set up for me,the other Sprinter which I had new in 2006 has bags of power and goes well, but its not set up as well for a wheelchair driver. It was kitted out by a bunch of clowns in Hampshire who the Mercedes dealer down there gave the job to, but they were a waste of space, and they were told that when I visited their workshop. I also made the Mercedes salesman an old man when I cursed him for the ■■■■ up and told him to find another customer to buy the van. I did with the persuasion of the mechanic who came with me to fetch the van from Fareham get the van back here and he modified some of the stuff they had fitted.
The newer one was converted by a firm from Goole called Outred & Harrison who are proper vehicle converters and convert ambulances and fire engines etc.
Cheers Dave.
In the late 60’s just when the black hgv’s licences started in 1970, I delivered, ambulances, dust trucks, roadsweepers, buses, and fire appliances of different types, from places like you say speciallise in certain vehicles. One young chap who fiddled with controls on a roadsweeper , picked it up around the Birmingham area to deliver to Edingburgh council, got a complaint from them the brush was worn out, the good news all the lorries heading south that was on CB, was saying it was green & clean all the north on the A1.

Hiya,
Norm I did a bit of double-decker delivering about that time cash in hand nudge nudge
wink wink you only needed a car licence to drive an empty bus in those days, they was
from the North West to the South coast, they was all painted up ready to go just to
remove the plywood temporary door blocking the platform off so’s people couldn’t hop
on when it was waiting at traffic lights and road junctions at least they was always
nice and warm and it made a change from handballing and roping and sheeting.
