The god's are on my side! (for the first time) :)

hi everyone! i got a really great bit of news today!

i have been out of work for a while because of ill health. The last few weeks i’ve been asking around my old mates and workmates to see if they know of any class 2 work going. Today it paid off!!!

a mate rang me up and told me he had explained my situation to his boss and he wanted me to come in for a chat with a view to offering me something. when i got there we had a really good chat, the boss is a nice old geezer. they run 2 artics and a 26t. he asked if i was class 2 or 3 and i said 2 (i think class 3 is the C1 puddlejumpers? after they stopped giving it out free with the car licence) and we went out into the yard so i could have a better look at the truck. i froze to the spot when i found out that they use it with a drag! and i said that i couldn’t drive it because you need a class 1 for that… or so i thought. he assured me that it is fine for me to do, he even got his licence out, which was C the same as mine, and i had never noticed there is a code (102? i think) next to CE that if you look on the paper part says “limited to drawbar trailers only”

that is something i did not know! i even went and saw my dad and got him to dig his licence out because i know he has got C entitlement as well, and checked… and sure enough it was there!

all the years i had my licence and i have to confess that i’ve never studied it, just given it a passing glance over! i didn’t know that was on there!

i can’t wait for it to come through the post now!

so now i have a job that i can start immediately when it comes  i have to admit i’m nervous about driving a wagon and drag, it will be the first time i’ve done it! on the other hand the practise will make taking my CE much much easier!!

hope i get the hang of the reversing quick!!!

People who passed their Class 2 or Class 3 before 1997 automatically had drawbar entitlement.

Passing CAT C from 1997 will not entitle you to drawbar and another test (CE) would have to be passed on either drawbar or artic.

BTW, in old money, class 3 was a rigid vehicle with 2 axles and a class 2 was a rigid with multiple axles. Then they lumped it all together and called it CAT C which gave class 3 drivers their class 2 effectively.

Hope this helps, Pete

cheers Pete. I knew something was gonna go wrong :frowning: just my luck! if I’d done my C 3 years earlier I would have been ok. I was a bit worried about how I was going to handle it after a while off-road.

I will still cling to the hope that when the licence comes back I may have the entitlement, but from what I’ve read I won’t hold my breath. :frowning:

guess It’s back to the job hunting :frowning:
