Well talk about a schoolday today, loved the drawbar unit to maneuver but the straw is a pig. I am on straw all week so I will get there, anyway the drawbar unit driving is a bit weird to get used to with the unnerving sway and rocking about. I got on my limiter once I got used to the fact that I wasn’t going to tip over, then bugger me on the way through Beverly there was a straw wagon on its side with straw everywhere. Not a great confidence booster from there on. Anyway got to my delivery by 3.30 pm and what a refreshing change. The farmers wife made me a coffee and a cheese sandwich with chocolate biscuits to boot. Had a good laugh with the farmer and the laborers about my lack of knowledge of whether I was carrying hay or straw!! Fantastic day, learnt loads and getting used to the swaying about I can tell you is very concerning at first. What a massive difference between general haulage and this, chalk and cheese. Bring on tomorrow is all I can think of to say.
A farmers wife has to muck in , a hauliers wife is know for spending
Glad you enjoyed your day UKt with the drawbar although I am a bit disappointed it was not an A frame. That may have put a different reflection on the day.
The title of this thread promised so much

She was certainly a grafter, I saw her with a herd of cows in a field, they must know her as they were all following her to a big cow shed.

I was relieved it wasn’t to be honest, had enough to contend with today without that been thrown into the mix.

Looked like she would certainly cut off your tail if you messed with her that is a fact.
When I was on the milk, I could count the farms where I would make/accept a cup of tea on the fingers of one hand.
As I resembled a scarecrow myself, they probably thought nothing to it. This was a huge farm that resembled more like Downton abbey than a mucky old farm that I was expecting. The cup was fine bone china which no doubt they reserve for guests like me. As I sipped my coffee with my little finger held properly out, I heard the farmer whisper to his wife “bit of a posh ■■■■■■■ here isn’t he” get the chocolate biscuits out as he looks like royalty. Perhaps I heard wrong, I am not sure.
Who are you doing this with?? Must says it’s one of the things i’d of liked to have a bash at… turned down a job with northern straw 4 years ago due to the distance from home (always regret that)

Here in Wales you never refuse a cup of tea if offered, even if you’ve just had one at the last drop. If you do, specially round the Cardigan area, it’s a given you’ll never be offered another one at that farm!
Stobarts doing straw now?

Its a great firm, I am used to travelling to Goole and Doncaster as these are the places I usually tramp from. Next two weeks I am commuting which is a bit of a pain as no nights out at the moment, after I have completed all of my inductions I am back tramping with feeds and straw. I am on bulk powder blowing next week on non ADR tankers. Never done this before so looking forward to it. You are still better off where you are for the money and local in my opinion. I think you would be daft moving unless you don’t like it?
seems like your Clutching at straws
tramp…glad the job is going ok, i did enjoy my time on tankers though…hope you do too.

We are definitely the higher paid around here yeah, only live on southcoates so 2 minutes and I’m in yard! I’ve only just started on our powder tanks and it’s definitely the cream work.

I am hoping so too, I am looking forward to it as it is something I have never done before. I would like to see if it suits me which I cannot see why it wouldn’t, I would also like to do two other things, one is European work although little chance of that and the other is car transporters which interest me. I am happy ding what I do now though and can’t see me not liking tankers.
I know what you mean about the sway tramp. First time I did it, don’t think went over 40 the whole way back to the yard.
Definitely get used to it. Look forward to doing it now. Gives me a break from the boxes.
took me a few hours to get on my limiter, even today I was trying to get used to it, you just feel every corner and roundabout that your going over. Nice truck btw.
