It looks as though it’s finally curtains for one of the best known buildings around Felixstowe dock as demolition work begins:

Surprised it lasted as long as it did. At 25 miles from our depot, it was too close and the advent of sleeper cabs and tight fisted bosses killed a decent idea stone dead. Jim.
That’s a shame I’ve had many a night out there
If you wanted a bath the bloke behind the bar I think his name was Martin used to give you the master key it had a big piece of wood attached to it and you searched the floors to find the cleanest bath !!!
It then went upmarket and you could have a shower which had the luxury of having a watering can rose for a shower head
I must say the food was always good and fresh and quite cheap as was the overnight parking charges
Plus it was good place to catch up with drivers you didn’t see that often over a pint or two
Another transport icon bites the dust, running Seatrain containers down to Felixstowe during my years at Humber McVeigh’s Salford,I relished that run once the RM opened, decent hot baths and decent hot food, the bar was a bonus,a clean digs to relax with mates,I should think there is quite a few drivers that have overnighted at the RM.
David
Shame I parked there a lot a few years ago. Always found it good.
There was nothing like having a good old soak in a nice deep hot bath, decent meal and a couple of beers before turning in,not forgetting to book your morning call with the night man on your way up

Yeah and you got all that there.
Early to mid 90’s if you wanted a bath, when you paid you got a plug, When you had a shower you got the shower head, this was because people used to steal them and the management got fed up with it.
There was the manky Alsatian roaming around and doing whatever it wanted and where, and the woman ( forgot her name) with a big beehive haircut, thought she ran a 5 star hotel.
Everything was well aged, well used, and in need of replacement, but nothing ever got spent on the place, grub was ok, lorry park was a pain, a sleeping policeman about 3ft high at the security hut when you went in!
It’s a shame it never had any money chucked at it truckstop wise.
There were also a lot of offices in the building, and a shell garage out the front.
