Well thats it, twenty years in the army done and dusted, and today is my first day as a “civi”
Still looking for full time employment as class 1, so till i find it it’s just odds and sods with the agencies, and even they dont seem to have much going in the run up to christmas which from what i have been led to believe is unusual !!
What other skills/experience did you gain in the army beside truck driving that might be useful in employment…I’m thinking that being able to combine truck driving with another skill is often a quick route into what are often quite interesting and well paid jobs.

MR grundril! best rank in the british army 12- 12- 12 hope you find a job ASAP! Lots of love from Stretford mufc! Mister
Hope civvy street isnt too much of a shock to the system.
i often wonder how difficult it is for armed service personnel to adjust to normal life after being institutionalised for so long. It must be akin to a life sentence prisoner being released from jail.
I am sure that a lot has been written about the difficulty of becoming a civvy. My own experience was as an employer in Birmingham in the 80s.
At that time we had a fair turnover of all kinds of staff in the factory where I was Distribution Manager, and I found (from a pretty small sample) that ex squaddies did not make model employees. They would present well at interview and for the first few weeks they were ok; then the problems would start. They seemed to have problems integrating with the rest of the staff and there was even the odd fight (leading to instant dismissal). They also tended to be big drinkers, leading to bad timekeeping and unscheduled days off.
I stress that this was only my experience of a few (ten or a dozen?) and it was 30 years ago.
Hi mate. In the the exactly the same position as yourself last day yesterday. I take in that it was redundancy same as myself. Lucky I found a full time job back in October. I must be honest the move to civie street have been very easy and no stress

So far its been okay, just bored of sitting around now less a few days out on the agency. However, there are a few possibilities on the horizon, just awaiting phone calls from a couple of companies arond Immingham, so keeping my fingers crossed as i have already had a few dissapointments over the last few weeks with driving jobs
As for other strings to the bow, i got my forklift and instructor tickets, so that is something if push comes to shove
