The End Of 40 m.p.h?

On some s/c trunk roads definetly like the A303 Ilminster bypass but i think some should still retain their 40 limit.

Not sure how they work out its stressful for the driver to drive at 40 mph,I find it quite the opposite

think they mean the car drivers find it stressfull sat at 40 mph looking at the rear end of the motor in front all the time

Car drivers don’t understand or realise the constraints of a truck, they should simply back off and chill out.

The article says Nov 2012 on its heading. That makes it 9 months old, not 18.

The 40mph limit is going nowhere. No government will ever back legislation that allows us and our ‘juggernauts’ to go faster.

I agree, I think certain politicians know it make sense, but sadly most government policy isn’t done on sense, but what the ill informed electorate beleives and which pressure groups have the most influence with the media.

I agree.
Before I started driving wagons, I used to drive everywhere with my foot down.
Now, I find it more relaxing to just bimble.

Then they should overtake. It’s not rocket science.

I ‘bimble’ too - find it far less stressful.

More often than not, there is nowhere to overtake. Either too much traffic or the road is unsuitable (bends, hidden dips et al) or both

Perhaps a better idea is to approve SOME stretches of road for 50 mph by HGVs .
Maybe with signs for trucks only

I used to drive at 45 to 50mph as I thought 40 was a bit antisocial. Then I got caught by a speed camera in a 50 limit doing 47mph. The camera could detect I was in a lorry. Now I set the speed limiter at 40. I’ve noticed an increase in reckless overtaking. The day after my speed awareness workshop I was overtaken by a white van on a double white line.
The 50mph limit proposal is out to consultation at the moment, and I think it might happen.
