The dumb cyclist

Oh dear, sometimes I just want to bang my head against the wheel in frustration, so here I am in boston town centre today sat on a bend which feeds directly into a mini roundabout, I can’t clear it in one without blocking the whole roundabout so hold short on the line, my trailer is about half a foot at best from the nearside curb because of the bending entry to said roundabout.

A gap comes and I prepare to move and do both side mirror check, I specifically look good and proper in my left as I passed a cyclist a few mins before stopping. The old fella on the bike is only rubbing against my trailer squeezing against the curb to come down my inside !!! Thank ■■■ I looked properly else he would have been squashed !!

I get to the level crossing on another red light where I decided to jump out and in a kind manner educate him how dangerous what he did was, he said, and I quote, it was fine, been hit by trucks before on my bike, I used to drive one of those you know, the guy was like late 70’s and I had to restrain my anger and his sheer lack of perception of danger, off he wobbles into the distance without a care in the world.

What hope have we got with people like this I ask you.

Something similar happened to me today. Narrow street in Bradford on Avon where the trafiic stopped to let me through. I make a move , a cyclist overtakes everyone thats stopped and squezes past on my offside.
He did jump when I sounded the horn :imp:

Hang on…there’ll be a cyclist along in a minute to defend the idiot and blame you for having the temerity to need to use the road and block the cyclist’s way… :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Personally I was thinking I’m proud to be a fellow truck driver to such a professional. I would have spoken to the cyclist as well.

+1

I had 4 coppers do almost exactly this on Saturday night. I used the horn to attract their attention and when I got it I pointed out the error of their ways. There were threats to book me for using the horn blah, blah, blah and then they tried to wriggle out of it by claiming to have had no training…I don’t mind going to court when I’m right so I wasn’t intimidated by their threats. They saw the light and the officer in charge after getting in the cab and displaying a degree of remorse got back out and proceeded to hand out a lecture to the offenders! :grimacing:

…while the Lorry spotters scibbled down your reg for potential prosecution for breaking weight restrictions!

disclaimer It’s a joke!

I have no problem with the actions you carried out, I’ve said before on this forum I tell other cyclists all the time not to go up the inside of any vehicles, especially trucks.
Just wondered if you have ever got out to speak to other vehicle drivers when they perform some stupid stunts around you.
