This has been requested by a few of you, so enjoy the thread Here and have a good laugh at my expense
. Looking back on it, I must say I can see the funny side now, but at the time it was a right ball breaker of a day - the most important thing? I learnt a hell of a lot from it once I’d come back to reality
.
Enjoy and learn.
I once decided to do a u-turn across the verges of a road. they were hard enough, but the turn took the weight off my drive axle and I sat there blocking the road, cars in front and behind. A builders van tried to pull me out (was going to say pull me off, but it sounded rude
) but no way was a battered old ■■■■■■, (Can’t recall the make of van he was drving
) going to pull 38 tonnes. Luckly for me the next vehicle to arrive was a tipper truck who managed to pull me straight.
I went to pull an artic off a field a few weeks back.
Would have been a nice simple job, straight winch out, had it not been for the fact that the driver, once stuck, had decided to drop the trailer in an attempt to get the unit out!!!
Needless to say, the trailer immediatelly sank to its knees!
Luckily, once the trailer suspension had been dropped, (lifting the nose of the trailer slightly) and the unit suspension dropped, i could just manage to get the ramps on the back of the unit under the trailer. Ran a wire under the trailer, to the rear axle on the unit, then winched the unit back under.
Once we had got the unit coupled up again, it was a fairly straightforward winching job, pulling the whole outfit backwards about 200 yds at a time (limited by the length of the winch wire), moving the wrecker, then pulling again.
Gave the local rag something to write about anyway!
On a rural back road, having dropped off my last passengers & with no return journey on this route, I decided that I would turn the bus around in a field entrance. Everything was going fine until I found a very deep plough furrow, in the entrance, from which point the road was blocked until I had found a post & dug myself out, time saved -5 minutes.
I also once got a class one stuck on muck away, to be fair the 8 leggers were struggling & we expected to get stuck, but it still didn’t feel good.
