So it was the day of my daughters wedding, I got pulled outside my ex’s house PC kindly informed me I was driving without insurance, I was sure that I had recently paid for insurance from the AA , anyway PC kindly phoned the AA who told them I had no insurance. They gave me a producer to record details of my paper part of licence as I thought I hadnt got it with me and told me that I would have to get insurance after the wedding (How very kind of them), (My girlfriend was insured to drive my car so she did)
So anyway after giving my daughter away I went to copshop to buy new insurance and produce my licence to record details. Anyway when I passed over my licence , (she asked for both parts) she said “Now you have surrendered you licence” HOLD ON A ■■■■ MINUTE!!! I need my licence for my employment, I have to have it photocopied everyday.
So she didnt give a (zb) and told me a photocopy and the reciept part of the producer would count as my licence until it came back with points on.
When I got home I found the letter from the AA saying my insurance was no longer in force from 14th feb unless i had recently paid it in which case ignore letter. I had written on that letter Paid 12th Feb.
I checked bank account and sure enough money had gone to the AA.
So to shorten this to a small novel, The AA admitted liability, would compensate me for loss of earnings and sent police a letter stating I was insured and the police dropped charges, this fiasco started on the 11th june and I still havent had my licence returned to date.
the Moral of this story : Check your insurance status, the police say this happens a lot (shame they dont have a little more sympathy drivers who rely on their licence for employment)
sure this has been posted before but you can check if your (or in fact any other) vehicle is insured…its the same place that ANPR checks.

I think the problem is that they’d removed him, the AA have admitted the mistake.
The MID is updated every second (or is capable of being), so just because you’re on there when you leave the house, doesn’t mean you are when you get in the car.
I always carry my insurance, mot and tax disc in the car. Not the full insurance with address etc, just a card with the insurance company details and my account number etc.

Carrying your insurance information won’t really help you if your company removes you from the database. Because to many people were setting up a standing order to pay their insurance, getting a certificate to say they were insured for that year and then cancelling the payments. They can still produce a valid certificate, but aren’t insured. This is why the police phone the company is you not on the database.

At least I’d have all the details for them to confirm. How many people go "I’m insured with… erm, I think RAC or AA… ", I just go, yep, it’s Privalige, there’s the details.

fair point, I support it’s why my insurance company provides a credit card size insurance certificate to keep in your wallet.

That looks like the problem, crossing in the post. The banks take too long to transfer money for their own benefit
