IIRC Eddie it was at the far end of the village on a bend, the driver was OK,a bit shook up but no worse for his “decent to the river”,our Wrecker towed the whole outfit down to Taits at Carlisle where I agreed with Iain Grant, the service Manager,to write the tractor off,and at the same time I gave him, personally,an order for a new F10 the same day ! He was well chuffed,he wasn’t a salesman and the Sales dept wern’t too happy as I laid it on a bit as to why they should allow “Granty” to sell a few motors for them !! I fetched the driver back to Milnthorpe in the Merc 450SE.The driver, the late Jim Varney was actually a great driver for Bewick Transport and after this accident with OEC16P we put him on the sister motor OEC17P.I bet you got your share of that rice Eddie apparently it was an accident black spot,a load of Coca Cola had gone over in the same place a couple of weeks afore.Cheers Dennis.

This is a shot of the F88 being “howked oot” of it !Dennis.

Aye when I see that photo it’s definatley the bend going out of Kirkconnel. It claimed a good few did that corner I remember one from Appleby about 55/56 this would be it was a contract motor to British Gypsum a Leyland artic with a Lancashire flat for Ardrossan docks and he also went straight over his was right down in the river was their name Mullen they ran that contract for along time 4 motors 2early shift and 2 late shift every day. Les Watson was on them he had a Trader and then a Seddon on it before starting as an owner driver. Eddie.

I think they were called “Mullens Motors” of Appleby, they collected Milk for the MMB as well and I recall them coming into Kendal every day to the new MMB dairy when it opened in 61/62.cheers Dennis.

This was the trailer that was in the accident Eddie,it had been ready for a re-furb so it got one and this was a shot of it in the Paper mill at Beetham after the event, they were tough trailers those Crane Fruehauf PSK’s,you couldn’t bend them eh! Cheers Dennis
