For those of you who don’t read any of the trade press the last few weeks various CRETINS have been threatening dire consequences for drivers who attempt to drive after September 2014 without a CPC.The latest CRETIN is Beverly Bell , when are these people going to get the message ‘Shove your CPC and your lorry driving job those not doing the CPC are making a lifetime choice probably planning to move on and I wish them luck’.Two years before and they are threatening, one year to go it will be ‘come on lads and lasses, please’, and I expect in 2014 they might even end up begging. My French buddy told he spent a week straight off in a classroom, boss paid for it all,and maybe someone can tell does any part of the CPC deal with avoiding ‘rollovers’ seems it might be a useful addition using the info gleaned from this site…and since I am watching tennis expect it will be ‘BRITISH’ Andy Murray if he wins and ‘Scottish’ Andy Murray if he loses, nice earner either way though.
Good post.
I don’t see the point in having to take a CPS anyway ? You have taken a test to show you can drive, you understand … or should understand the hours of service laws and have proven yourself… unless you are a complete twonk.
I see this as just a way to grab some extra funds from the work force.
Does a house painter need to attend art school ?
Looks like you’ll have a busy time in 2014 then.
Do you really believe that you’ll get away with not having your DCPC when it becomes law?
If you think you will be able to sneak away without it you’ll have to think again. The company you work for will be expected to check that you are legal to drive, licence and DCPC, if they’re found out to be letting their drivers drive without DCPC they will lose their operators licence, simple as.
You will only be able to work for companies that run bent if you don’t have your DCPC in 2014 so if you’re happy with that carry on.
P.S. I think the DCPC in its current form is bloody awful and a waste of money for everyone, but we’ll need it cos the government wont back down for a bunch of drivers.
I agree, there is no way Im paying to take a course that I only have to attend in order to carry on doing a job. Ive read the threats they will revoke your hgv licence if you dont do the cpc. Do they make these rules up as they go along?
I dont drive hgv any more, a transit gives me 50p an hour less than agencys are paying class one round here, no tachograph - digicard or otherwise to deal with, Vosa find it much harder to pull you over (i can use 3rd lane of the motorway, how do they get in front?) At tips, most of the load doesnt need a forklift so carry it in, sign there and away - no kept waiting for hours.
You want to take my hgv licence? here, shove it where the sun dont shine along with your digicard renewal you want me to pay for!
Good for you Turbo.
When I was an O/O a few years back I had toyed with the idea of going over to driving a courier van for much the same reasons. I figured out I could make far more money and avoid DOT crap.
Turbo in about 2 years time you’ll still have to do the cpc as by then theyll have brought them in for 3.5 tonnes
Not these days pat to many idiots think they can run a big van for 60-70ppm believe it or not

Schrodinger’s Cat, the OP implied he was going to hang up his keys not drive without doing the DCPC.
I’m OK til 2019, paid for the CPC myself but I’ll stop driving just as soon as my other business is on its feet, I don’t need the ■■■■■■ attitudes from some of the shiny @rses that drivers have to put up with.

Yes, they do make the rules up, like it or not, that’s their job
It has been passed into law that you need to do the DCPC to continue holding a licence to drive LGVs, so it’s the same as refusing to take a medical, you will have your licence revoked

Being a bit pedantic (which I am I have to admit ).
You won’t get your licence revoked as you would with the medical, you just need the DCPC card to run alongside it. Boy are VOSA going to earn some money in 2014.
Its still ■■■■■■■■ as it stands though.
I think the point the OP is trying to make is that come the cut off point, there will be a shortage of Drivers with the DCPC therefore creating a lot of head scratching.
Nah I reckon the government will see a massive shortage of drivers with a DCPC and they will then extend the date from 2014 to a further date.
There is no way can the industry be allowed to grind to a halt by sacking HGV drivers just because they dont hold a DCPC card.
In fact if the majority dont take the DCPC then I can see the EU or even government scrapping it.
Before all you pro DCPC drivers rant on yes it is a EU directive but this Tory government will scrap silly EU laws that will wreck our economy!

I’ve just done my ADR & tanks modules & that adds up to 28 hrs so I still need another 7 before Oct 2014, we were told on that course that if you havn’t done your 35hrs by the due date the HGV entitlement is removed from your licence 'till you get it!!
Ross.
PS, I think the DCPC is a load of old testicles!!

Glad to see DCPC trainers still dispensing accurate advice and information.
Just to prove how pedantic I am I’ve just checked the govt. website about DCPC and once you’ve done all your DCPC modules you get a DQC (Driver Qualification Card). This will run alongside your licence to keep you legal over all of Europe.
It is ‘claimed’ that the Spanish have a complete lack of interest in the CPC and I can understand why,it would probably help if they learnt to drive first but that is something else, imagine a ferry arriving from Spain October 2014 fully laden with Spanish lorries carrying supermarket produce, non with a CPC does anyone believe Vosa would even try to send them back, upset Tesco et al,I am sure Vosa would not even be seen near that ferry or a Spanish truck least until it was unloaded and on it’s way somewhere else…

Absolutely correct, but don’t complete the 35 hrs & you loose your entitlement until you do. (or at least that’s what I’ve been told, so beware!!)
Ross.
Quite agree that the dcpc is a waste of time, but unfortunately its something I must have to carry on driving in 2 years time. No I don
t want to do it but I don`t want to pay vosa £1000 for not having it, or for not carrying my card either.

Good point.
I’m going to see how it goes… If it’ ■■■■ e, then maybe another change of job on the cards.
I’ve paid enough now for my licences.
I want to be paid to drive - not pay to drive!!!
I have my own plan for dealing with the DCPC.
I will be out of the UK when it comes into force
and shall judge for myself how best to go forward
when I lose my entitlement and right to earn a living.
If the bods in Eurodisney want to force me in to what
I consider a useless non qualification,then I will
do it in my own sweet time.

Not what I have heard. Drivers with Grandfather rights untill 30/09/14 must complete 35 hrs dcpc to continue driving commercially. You will not require a dcpc card to drive a lgv for personal reasons. Therefore they cannot take your LGV or for that matter PCV Entitlements off your license drivercpc.co.uk/important-information
