start date 4th january
im going to be doing technical support on the brand new night shift which means minimum staff who are also new to the job. it looks like i will have to do 12 hour shifts for a while after training to learn the job properly from the day shift.
Hope it goes well,12 hour shifts with no VOSA or tachos .or any other clip board carrying ZB.

thanks for the support guysi knew i would be leaving the industry but i had intended carrying on as a hobby but under the circumstances, if i have a full time job i would be taking work from other drivers who are relying on it for an income and i am not prepared to do that.
Kenny, if south gyle isnt too far then by all means get in touch. i am looking for a job on the night shift which starts in january and if i get it i will be responsible for hiring and firing within my own team. im bound to have dead weight to get rid of so i will be looking for good staff who are prepared to work for a living
im bound to have dead weight to get rid of
1st scanny let me tell you don’t count your chickens b4 they hatch m8,virgin are in the process of being takin over by k&n and they have already closed livingston and ballieston branch’s down.you are going in to this job with the wrong attitude by the statement you have made above and are going in through the back door to get this job.the guys that you might be in charge of will probably have forgotten more than you bloody well know and have a vast range of years experiance, and your 1st thoughts are to get rid of ppl.you cant buy experiance pal and trust me if you go with that attitude then it won’t be long til your put on your ■■■.i can’t be arsed with guys like you who think they are better than everyone else.ppl like u really do ■■■■ me off.
thats not exactly what i mean. im getting daily updates and i know there are people there who are a waste of time. bullies being a problem already. all i am looking for is people who want to work. there are a lot of people there who have never done that kind of work before but if they have the right attitude then i want them on my team. if they are a liability to my team then i dont want them. im not looking for expertise but my main concern is for my team, not any individuals within the team including myself. i dont matter. the team matters!
its not virgin i am working for directly. its a contract and they have just won a vodafone contract too which is moving to edinburgh. i dont think i know it all either. my main reason for wanting 12 hour shifts is because i will be on the night shift covering technical support and as there will presumably be minimal staff on night shift, it will fall to the team managers to deal with everything so i want to spend extra time with the day shift learning my own job. a few weeks of training will not prepare me for the job i will be responsible for so i want to improve myself to enable me to look after my team more efficiently. i dont want to let them down so i will put the effort in to make sure i can give them the support that they need
I could do with a career change, road testing & quality control of virgins sounds good to me
it will fall to the team managers to deal with everything so i want to spend extra time with the day shift learning my own job.
i’d expect a team manager 2 know everything b4 he/she takes the job on,so r u saying that u don’t know the job
of course i dont know the job. the job i am going for doesnt even exist yet and i am doing a different job to the staff that are currently employed and as this is all brand new, they were trained by staff from newcastle and by video link from texas. the 3 weeks of training will not be enough and the best way to continue training is to learn on the job which is exactly what i intend to do. no one walks into a new job as an instant expert but in that line of work there are certain inevitabilities that are not only predictable, but expected in any company or industry with a high turnover of staff ie there will be vacancies. some will leave themselves like the 2 out of 4 team managers who have already resigned and there will be other staff who are a waste of time. this is typical of that industry, not personal opinion.
well surely the company would rather have staff that already know that line of work in place so as they can show others what to do,rather than bring in people that don’t know jack ■■■■ about that kind of job.it don’t make sense to me for a company to employ team leaders/managers etc that don’t know the job and expect them not only to learn the job themselves from scratch, but to train others at the same time.plus if that line of work has a high turnover of staff i’d be asking myself why that is? does the company push them to hard or expect more hours for less pay or no pay,you know what big companies are like these days, treat you like ■■■■■ and expect you to take it.
ritchie, all i meant was don’t go in to this job with blinkers on,your friend might have a personnel grudge with these guy’s that he’s telling you about.you must go in with a open mind and be prepared to give everyone a second chance and once you know what the job entails and you are confident enough that he/she ain’t up to the task then you have to go through the proper procedure of disciplining them, you can’t just sack them, they ( employees) have rights and if your found to have not followed the proper system then you leave yourself wide open (and the company) for tribunal.

with the lack of work during what should be a busy time…Lack of work? We’re flat out and have just taken on new drivers this week.
That should be good for a few new MMTM stories or will it be HMTH?
again, you are missing what i am saying Jim. im not going in with the intention to sack people but you know yourself that you do get the odd ones that are of no use to anyone purely because of attitude. i could get lucky and walk into a great team but the odds are stacked against that. i wont be looking at ability because that can be improved over time but anyone who doesnt want to improve is going to be a liability to the team. i have to look at the team as a whole rather than any individuals. i cant allow my teams performance statistics to be brought down because of one or two people. that wouldnt be fair to the rest of them. some companies prefer experience, others prefer an open mind so they can train staff to do things their way. i got lucky
im not basing this on this particular company or building. they have only been taking calls for a couple of weeks so they are still trying to fill vacancies and get everything up and running. i know there is a high turnover of staff because of various different companies and offices in that industry. t-mobile in larbert was notorious for staff walking out. its just how things are in that line of work
cant argue with that Rob. not because you are right, because you have no basis for your opinion

You fall squarely into that bracket yourself.

My opinion is based on the content of your posts on here and elsewhere, plus the comments from those that have met you. Your whole approach to this new job of yours is all wrong and I’ll tell you right now it’ll end in tears. You haven’t even started yet but you’re already throwing your weight about saying how you’re gonna sack a load of folks who probably won’t conform to your idealistic ways (in your round-about opinion). Yep, that’s a really great way to make a first impression and get your team onside . A people person is something you ain’t and I will bet my house that your entire ‘staff’ will hate you more than you can possible imagine after a few weeks of you being at the helm. Do them and yourself a favour and either change your attitude before you start or don’t take the job.
I can think of much more suited jobs for you that perhaps you should consider. I think that you would be perfect for either a Police Officer or Council Official role. Both these roles would satisfy your cravings for a) power-trips, b) jobsworth and c) generally being a [zb].
Bloody hell Scanny, I didn’t realise what an absolute arse hole you are !
Judging by your fan club above, anyway.
