The Car

Why is it that when a perfectly sensible question is asked others assume (wrongly) that there is some sort of hidden agenda ? !!

in reply to Rog a fair question i thought so heres what happened
came through Bulkington village too slowly in a que
turned onto Wolvey road and as soon was safe overtook car doing 20
proceeded along the straight doing 30 /35
got near to first band (very sharp) and thought
dont want to be overtaken by that car when i am in the ditch
so slowed right down carried on cautiously next bend same thoughts
front felt light oops (phew going slow)
next thing left hand hanging out correct
then right hand goes correct it nearly
bang in the ditch

nothing i would change its one of them

how fast was i going eveidently too fast
about 20

Someone overtake me in the ice last year because i was obviously going to slowly, as they came round i watched them lose control and go flying into the ditch, was actually quite funny and something i wont forget.

Did they see you go into the ditch or pass you? Any pictures?

Sorry to here about your bad luck, get to a breakers and on flea bay.

no they didnt see it
and no pics

Thats lucky lol.

Anyway are you going to fix your car? Parts for them arent to expensive.

The wing is bashed i dont have the facilities to
do body work or to be honest the inclination

Most places have got a self employed bloke that does bodywork, who should sort you car out for a few hundred pounds.

Was this something that you think you can avoid doing again if the same situation presented itself?

The best way for the OP to avoid his accident today would have to have stayed at home. Slippery surfaces and motor vehicles do not mix well…

Next time get a rear wheel drive motor. :bulb: Slippery surfaces and front wheel drive motor vehicles don’t mix well.

Thats fair enough, but, if you got a wing and bumper the same colour its simply a case of bolting it back together. I know a good bit about cars and so do others on here so sure we could talk you through it.

you have that completely the wrong way around, front wheel drive works 100% better in the snow , every body knows that.

french cars are rubbish in the snow ,my c5 gets stuck in a light frost(its for sale by the way  )

:open_mouth:

It all depends on your definition of ‘every body’.

So you’re saying that a SAAB could get round that circuit faster than that Volvo.

Rear wheel drive works better on snow,or anywhere else for that matter. That’s why Mercedes and BMW don’t use fwd on the AMG E63 or the M5 because they would be undriveable in that case even on a dry road let alone one covered in snow.

Everybody? Don’t include me in that – I’d rather have RWD, back wheels for driving, front for steering, cut my teeth on RWD, been at it for nearly 50 years, anyway doesn’t matter which, neither is a lot of good on ice.

Depends, but I know what you mean.

When I first started driving cars, I overtook a Mazda MX-5 that was crawling over the hills, a bit later I was in a ditch, the Mazda pulled up, the doctor who was driving it got out and proceeded to treat my injuries whilst waiting for the ambulance…

2 ways of looking at this, 1. If I didn’t overtake him, I might not have ended up in the ditch. or… 2. If I didn’t overtake him, he wouldn’t have been behind me to treat my injuries.

I prefer the 2nd thought and now make sure I overtake everything incase 1 is a doctor :grimacing: Only kidding but the story is true.

Sorry to hear about your car dude, but as others have said, they’re not expensive. But saying that, my daily runner is a 13yr old BMW 530d, a black cab wiped it out about 6 weeks ago, insurance have written it off as a Cat D for a scrape down the side, so I’ve got the car back and driving it as normal…

don’t disagree with you there , i’m on my 3rd BMW had them for the past 15 years and currently an E46 M3 for the past 5 years, but when it comes to driving on the snow the miss 306 is miles better …
