The Big Countdown to 50 mph

On the full scale charm offensive again Conor. Have you ever thought of a job in the diplomatic service? You’re wasted as a shopping trolley attendant.

Hope the police clamp down on those who decide they want to stick to 40.
Can’t drive at a decent speed for the road or conditions get off the road.

well sed that man

Yeh but we’ve moved on from there mate try and keep up :unamused:

Some of you think that because, in their opinion, that the majority choose to ignore the 40 limit, that they are in the right. Since when has majority opinion had any bearing or influence on government legislation. Don’t come back with ‘well it has on this occasion’… it hasn’t end of.
By the same token, and by that mind set the majority of car drivers ( and the odd d.head trucker :unamused: ) choose to ignore the keep left rule and hog the middle lane, so let’s kick lane discipline into touch and crack on eh.

Can I just say that I aint in the 40mph brigade, The boy’s brigade, or the Charge of the bloody light brigade I am just a pro driver that knows when it is, and is not, safe to travel at 50 on a A road, the problem with the new law is there are too many f/whits driving trucks that DO NOT.

The A75 is going to be the big test. I just can’t see all the V8 paddy wagons sacrificing 6mph for nearly 100 mile all the way from the M6 to the docks.

Will make for some interesting overtaking :astonished:

At the time he was caught it was an offence, the time it came to court it was no longer an offence?

You’ve answered your own question.

What would you think in the flip side of this with reference to the recently reduced drink drive limit in Scotland? Someone stopped the day before the change came in an blew between the new and old limit, they weren’t nicked but do you think the coppers could go back the next day and say, “the amount of alcohol in your system yesterday is now an offence today so you’re being charged with drink driving.”

Or you use a bus lane during the time it is live between 7:00am and 7:00pm and are given a ticket. Do you think you could pop up the police station at twenty-past seven that evening and say, “it’s not an offence now, here’s your ticket back.”

+1
Can you imagine the uproar if they REDUCED the speed limit on a road and contacted everyone and said “you wern’t speeding yesterday but the limit is lower today”

Muckaway:
Anyone know what speed Tescos will be taking our safety seriously at?

I’ll ask tomorrow and report back, I’d completely forgotten all about the speed change

Where is the A75. Is it in England or Wales?

Neither

I know you know really  …you little tease you
I would have come back with it’s ‘Up Scotch’ but you called me gay the last time I said that
Actually ‘you little tease’ sounds a bit gay also eh?
So I’ll just butch up a bit and go and watch football with a pint of John Smiths and ■■■■ at the bar

Its ok sitting behind a truck doing 40 if you are either behind it or a few cars back. If you are ten or more cars back then its a highly frustrating experience thanks to the flipping morons who decide to ride on the arse of the car in front.

\ I was driving back on the A15 in a queue of traffic following a container wagon. The wagon was off in the distance, only slowing down when it comes to hills but we’re were doing about 20-30mph because people were driving too close to the car in front. It was a constant cycle of speed up, slow down trying to gap a big enough gap to minimise the need to change gear. You could fit a full size artic in the gap I was leaving yet the car in front of me was less than a Smart car’s length from the rear bumper of the car in front of him.

You see this nonsense at work on the motorways in heavy traffic, instead of having a large gap that allows you to keep rolling, these numpties that clearly have gotten their licenses from the back of their Frosties cereal box think they need to sit in the car in fronts boot to make progress.

I think it’s because they don’t look ahead, no forward planning etc. That’s why there are so many rear end shunts too close and no room to see brake light ahead :unamused: We do have the advantage though being higher

Ahhhh. So no speed increase in Scotland ?

Bingo.

John smiths is for poofters. Get a few pints of jennings down yer. Mind not to ■■■■ after jennings. Chances are you’d end up with damp and smelly pants.

I’m sticking to 40mph,don’t like change.

i wonder how many accidents you will directly or indirectly cause by having irate drivers overtaking you by all means possible as you will be unreasonably holding them back.rightly or wrongly just now then theres masses of accidents caused by trucks driving to the letter of the law regarding speed, how bad will it be when your driving 10mph below the speed limit.if i was a traffic plod then id be finding whatever charge i could to get drivers with that mindset off the road.all they are is a frustrating rolling roadblock.

This, slow driving is almost as bad as speeding. Both put lives at risk.

sure we will only be doing the same speed next month as we do now.i.e well above the limiter. its 40 now and 40 next month, none of the boat traffic will drive any differently, the only difference will be the string of speeding truckies trying to use the…( i thought it was a 50 limit now the same as england) excuse for a while.( no doubt to no avail) as we all know the way it works in downtown d&g.if you dont think overtaking on a blind road is interesting enough following instructions from a front runner on the cb,then theres just no fun left in you at all.

Boat traffic won’t drive any different no. But those who used to drive at 40 will present much more of a problem to them if they now drive at 50.

Moot point anyway :grimacing:

Tell that to the idiot driving up the M1 last night with hazards on at about 30mph in the inside lane :open_mouth:

good point,i never thought of that aspect…they will still get their elbows taken off one way or the other though its irrelevant as the limit of 40 isnt changing on the 75,and when it does,no doubt d&g will make it still be a 40 limit if they can as theyre making too much in fines for the revenue to be lost, otherwise why would 100 miles of crack in the ■■■■■■ of nowhere road be able to justify such a large traffic police presence. big cars for stranraer, dumfries, and lockerbie etc…how could they justify them if it wasnt for truckie entrapment?
