105 Vehicles on Licence as J . Long & Sons (Haulage) Ltd.

Started in business pre World War One and, like many
others, operated as a Carter with a horse and cart.

In 1918 Joe Long returned to Holbeck in Leeds after serving in the first world war. He had been wounded and was left with only one lung. He resumed his business as a coal merchant with horse and carts and later with motor wagons.

An interesting one, with O-Licences for 985 Vehicles in total :

208 Vehicles in Belfast
75 Vehicles in Liverpool
12 Vehicles in Carlise.

A further 690 Vehicles are O-Licenced in Belfast under the name of
Norman Derek McBurney, a Director of McBurney Refridgeration Ltd.

Extracts from McBurneys own website, as follows, talk about being
“One of the largest independent haulage companies in Ireland” not the UK.

"The McBurney Transport group is a family owned business with
over 40 years experience in the transport industry. We have become
one of Ireland’s largest independent haulage companies.
McBurney Transport
Norman McBurney established McBurney Transport in 1965 to
provide road haulage throughout Ireland & UK. McBurney
Transport acquired Joseph Baird Transport in September 2004.
The purchase of Bondelivery in Belfast in the 1990 gave access
to a storage & distribution facility which has substantially grown.
McBurney Refrigeration Ltd
In July 2000, P&O Ferrymasters refrigerated division was
purchased by the group, which provided an operations base in Liverpool.
In May 2003 we acquired Pleroma Distribution Ltd in Liverpool, which provided a 12,500 pallet space cold & chilled storage facility. We have built a new state of the art extension to this cold storage facility, which increases the capacity to 22,500 frozen pallet spaces and 5,000 chilled/ambient pallet spaces."
