Here’s a picture I have found which was taken at the 1998 Atkinson Gathering.

The notorious Killingbeck wrecker!

what a beast! :sunglasses:

killsville:
This was taken through the back window of my Atki and I thought it turned out quite well!

I think I might even post this in the “Where am I” forum!

cracking photo andy, looks like it might be the m1 around barnsley to me, then again it might even be the m6 or the m5 or the…you get the picture

“pictures of snails”

Cracker  , never saw them like that before, I do remember the fuss that
brought back the big 'A’s though. Is this the first time people power has had
such an effect, or the logo of a company taken over has been superimposed
on the new parent?

Salut, David.

The Bussing logo was retained by MAN for a while - I certainly remember JB Rawcliffe running some with the Alsatian on the grille in the mid to late seventies.

i thought the pictures of snails crack was funny an all dave!

the dog was on mans for a while i didnt know it was bussing, i dont know why they didnt keep it, good badge and man thogh a good motor, they are a very bland motor.

Will have to try Photoshop and see if I can replace them with something more ‘period’!

Krupp cabbed Atki’s were being offered for sale in CM as late as 71, I dont know wether it was through Comberhill or not though.

Dixon Meats were from Ashton under Lyne and seem to have disapeared some time in the 80’s.Its possibly where Dalehead Foods is now . They had a mainly van sales fleet though they did also have a Mickey Mouse Foden unit around the same time as the Krupp A.

A firm from Kings Lynn exhibited Bussing at the 68 Motor Show witha couple of vehicles ,one of which was a well specced 16 tonner. But the following year Units were available through Brian Watt at Wath upon Dearne, Barnsley.

Now then - here’s another picture of the blue Viewline when Barratts of Delph had it.

The picture was taken by 240 Gardner at the 1985 Atkinson Rally at Walton Summit, outside Rylands before they ran down to Winery Lane.

nice pic marky!

I always thought the Viewline would make a good sleeper cab but I must say
I’m disappointed with the aesthetics of this conversion. I suppose it is
because the elongation has robbed it of its towering appearance and made a
distinctive truck ordinary.
Perhaps if the roof had been raised at the same time?

Sorry to be an old grouch, I know they didn’t do it just to please me, just the
way I feel about it :unamused: .

Salut, David.

raised again? Blimey, it’s tall enough as it is! I loved my Viewline to bits for the 19 years that I owned it ( and it was IN bits for part of that time!) but I couldn’t honestly say that it achieved much aesthetically!

Perhaps the Barrett one would have been improved if the sleeper stuck out less like a shelf, and was faired downwards to fill in the gap at the side and underneath the sleeper? It would have looked better with a second steer in there too!

i never really thought about it as a sleeper, but if thats a big window i see in the back of tha cab, coupled with the massive windscreen, it would be a damned cold sleeper!

youre right dave it aint pretty, i do like it tho!

It’s got the two original windows in the back panel - Viewlines had much bigger windows than the Mk.1 and Mk.2. Curiously, though, ICI had a least a couple of Viewlines that had Mk.1 or Mk. 2 back windows fitted - one has survived into preservation, although it isn’t restored yet. Perhaps it was something to do with being firescreen cabs.

And you’re right Mal - the Viewline was freezing in winter and absolutely unbearable in summer! I remember running down from Lancashire one hot day to Beaconsfield to pick up a b*s for the Leyland Museum, and I spent most of the time on the M40 trying to hang my head out of the window so I could breathe!

And, since Atkis had taken the radical step of lining up the pedals, seat and steering wheel on the Viewline (unlike other Atkis), it was a lot further to lean!!
