The best thing for me to do?

Hello Ladies and Gents,

I am new to the forum and thought this would be the best place to get my questions answered. So a little bit about me, I have held my class 1 for 7 years i passed while in the army in a W&D. I have just been made redundant from Teesside steelworks where i was a shift supervisor for static and mobile plant. Since leaving the Army back in 2009 i have had no on the road experience, during my time on the steelworks i drove a Class 1 tanker on occasions but for any one who nose the place there is no public roads as such, and to be honest a monkey could drive on there. So due to my redundancy i went and did a full week 35hrs CPC and got my self a digital tachograph card. I need to try and find a company in the Teesside area that will understand yes i have held my licence for 7 years but i am an inexperienced driver. I have limited knowledge about working time directive, load security and driving on the public highway. Any advise would be much appreciated i need to be in work in the next week if i could be.

Thanks for reading
Matti

This is a good time to get agency work with the run up to Christmas. It may well dry up during January but you may be lucky and get a regular placement.

I suggest you find a trainer who can supply a refresher on artic (make sure it’s artic rather than w+d) and will supply a certificate to say you’ve done it. That will go a little way to countering the “lack of experience”.

But don’t waste time; the Christmas work will be over in less than 6 weeks.

All the best with it, Pete

Like Pete says, a bit of time in an artic and go for it, you’ll be fine. A bit of confidence and with the Xmas rush you’ll be working in no time.

Prestons of Potto are willing to give anyone a go as long as your willing

How have things developed Matti?

Hope you have got on ok
