The a9 average speed cameras

There was an item about this road on The One Show a few days ago.I had a run up that way to-day in a 7.5 tonner.I kept her at 50 mph but there was soon a tail back behind me(where else). As I passed under the fly over at Ballinluig I caught sight of National speed limit signs for the traffic joining the A9.I couldnt see any yellow cameras on the dual carriageway sections ,so what is the score here.?

AFAIK, and i remember reading this somewhere, the average cameras don’t measure you on the DC sections. Or if they do, it’s for data-gathering only, not enforcement. You’ll find 99% of trucks will be flat out on the DC sections (im saying nothing, but read into that what you will :smiling_imp: ) - some even on the SC sections - the bravest of the brave i think

I’ve been doing 53 on single and after the yellow cam before the twin track and on until the next one up to max .

Most guys a see do 35mph on single carriageway and flat out on dualler, usually empty or light too so you can’t catch them

35 or 53 ?

There is a trial in place for HGVs - 50mph. There are plenty of yellow cameras and signs that say they are measuring average speed. Stands to reason they can’t measure them on DCs as they are not situated at the start and end of DC sections. They’re probably more interested in drivers doing impersonations of Colin McCrae…

The DC sections are not covered by the cameras but when I came down there a few weeks ago and there was a scamera van on each section. I thought I would hate those ASC’s but it is actually a much more relaxing drive with them, not in a truck/lorry any more but in a BMW ! (with working indicators) :open_mouth:

I keep it at 50 as there is plenty of DC for the impatient ■■■■■ behind you to get by eventually. There’s a 40 mph section on the a9 as well just now, cam at start and end and they do work, guy who works beside me has gathered 6 points for 2 Sep occasions so be sure too slow down. That goes for cars as well

but in a BMW ! (with working indicators) :open_mouth:

  I really believe that, and also that Mrs puggy wuggy has a square cut punt, not a punt cut square but a square cut punt!

I think that is easier to say with a straight face than my BMW has working indicators

I.ve sat at 85kms on the single bits since they put the cameras up and never had any problem and i use it almost every week, i just leave it at 85 on the short bits of D/C so anyone quicker can get by, on the longer stretches though i unleash the full 89kms

'm up and down the A9 2 or 3 times a week. The dual sections are not covered by cameras, have been doing 56Mph on them regularly and never get a ticket, but the camera vans are out and about on the dual sections and there are unmarked cars still operating on the A9. I stick to 50 in the camera sections as, a) I’m monitored and b) hopefully if we behave we might finally get 50 mph on other roads in Scotland.
