The A16

Been doing my first trip out into the wilds of Lincolnshire these past two weeks. It’s been out from London to Boston, then (if needed) up to Worksop and back down to London.

Someone on here keeps mentioning the A15 north of Lincoln as a good reason why the speed limit should be 50mph, but the A16 from Peterborough to Boston is built for it - 30 miles of straight, flat single-carriageway Road punctuated only by the ceaseless roundabouts. Actually, the older A17 is much faster as there’s only about three of them all the way from Swineshead Bridge to Newark.

But - the stupid overtaking still happens! I even saw a wobble-box overtake a truck this afternoon and I keep having to flash people coming the other way on my side at 60mph. Someone will probably get killed doing that one of these days and guess who’ll get the blame? “Oh, if he’d only been doing 40 like they used to, that car driver could have got past him quicker!”

Should we be bringing the limit down to 50 for everyone? Or just on that road where (unlike on the A17) there aren’t bits of dual carriageway where the petrol-heads can zoom past?
