The 5 most important checks before moving off?

Is the cab secure? Has it been tilted recently and is it locked in place propperly?
Condition of mirrors and windows.
Lights and horn
Tyres and wheels
steering and brakes - free play and opperation - this includes the air tanks

Lights - working and clean.
Tyres and wheels- Correct tread, inflated and free from cuts and splits. Nuts all in place and indicators alligned if fitted.
Windows and mirrors - Clean with washers working
Steering - No excessive play and, if fitted, power steering working. (This will be determined before leaving the depot)
Brakes - Free from leaks and working. (Once again this will be determined before leaving the depot)

With respect to the other vehicle checks they are all important but these have an obvious safety impact on both the driver and other road users.

  2. Do I have a light for number one.
  3. Do I have money for tea.
  4. Have I packed my sarnies.
  5. Have I got my copy of the Sun.

Ain that the truth…LOL… I’d swap the tea money for Coffee money though…

  1. Am I in the right truck (With 12 identical in the yard best to be sure)

  2. Does the load match the paperwork?

  3. Is the load secure?

  4. Enough fuel for the journey. (If fuelled at base)

Then all the legal and safety stuff…

As a car Driving Instructor with almost 16 years experience, & a fair deal of experience of teaching, owning, & operating LGV C+E. I would say i can ONLY think of 4 answers at the most:

  1. clear ahead?
  2. left mirror
    3 right mirror
    4 shoulder check

It asks “before moving off.” i.e. after a stop. IT DOES NOT ask for start of duty checks upon taking over a vehicle, or after picking up a trailer.
If these are not the answers sought, then i would strongly suggest their question is worded inappropriately.
