The 3rd one being moved

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-25041893

Got stuck behind the last one what wasnt a night out was, come out of Oxford on the way to Exeter then crawled behind it for ages.

Just out of interest does anyone know why transformers are so heavy as they don’t really look that big. you would wonder if a solid lump of iron that size will weigh 600 tonnes

Rather him than me moving it…

Movement cancelled according to a Ha tweet

RT @HAnews_swest Abnormal load travelling on M4 and M32 between Didcot and Avonmouth this weekend cancelled ~

Thames Valley Police

A34 abnormal load — A34 Oxon, Berks (update)

Friday 22 November 2013, 4:28pm

Thames Valley Police is advising drivers that the transportation of an abnormal load, due to take place on the A34 today (22/11), has been postponed.

Over the weekend a transformer from Didcot Power Station was due to be carried to Avonmouth Docks.

This has now been postponed until next weekend, starting on Friday (29/11) from 7pm. It will take place at exactly the same time a week later and along the same route as planned.

It will be carried on a girder trailer with three tractors, one pulling and two pushing. The overall dimensions will be approx 4.87m wide, 4.98m high, 89.67m long and 637.80 tonnes gross weight.

The convoy, which will take up both lanes of the southbound carriageway, will travel at a maximum speed of 10mph and will effectively close the southbound A34 from Didcot to the M4 Junction 13 in the section that it is travelling on.Over the weekend of 30 November to 1 December will travel along the M4 westbound, also causing delays.

Police are advising motorists to seek alternative routes.

Anyone with any queries is asked to contact Thames Valley Police on the non-emergency number 101.

Saw them on the way to it this morning

I was going to say something similar but without the Oil. Surely they would drain that for movement wouldn’t they?

Also, wouldn’t the prime mover need ADR plates if it is pulling that much oil? Not criticising, asking as I am unfamiliar with ADR/Heavy Haulage rules. Surely that much oil wouldn’t come in under scope or as LQ■■?

so what will happen to the site,if its being sold off i bet the developers are rubbing their hands with excitement

There has been talk of a new coal fired power station to be built in its place that meets environmental regulations. Apparently building a new one is comparable with the costs of having to convert everything to meet the new regulations.

The ground is so contaminated that its unlikely to have anything other than industrial units

It’s like a member of the travelling community’s ■■■■■■■■■.

(Only the criminal ‘cough’ minority ‘cough’ though)

Can you imagine the look on their faces if they got hold of a 600 tonne transformer full of copper and oil?

I can.
