Yes yes before you say it spaghetti junction is in Birmingham but there is another one in Coventry .
It’s the junction system in Coventry city centre — the one bit in particular I’m on about is when you come off the roundabout from richo arean side of town and go up the slip road you then have to pull across into another dual carriageway if you need to get onto that particular road while building up speed and seeing what’s happening on the other road.
The only trouble is both dual carriageways use this single small gap to so enable drivers to swap between lanes/direction, who designed that , it’s bloody dhard at times in a truck when it gets busy .
I know what you mean, the inner ring road in CV. There are actually several places like that on it; where a dual carriage slipway joins the dual carriage ring road and immediately another dual carriage way slips off the ring - so essentially two dual carriageways meet side-to-side. So when you’re taking the junction you slip off to the left while somebody else is joining the ring road so you’re criss-crossing each others way… And when your next turn is left again you have just to cross one lane while speeding up and then slow down immediately… And when you’re in small car you cann’t see over the armco or railings…
I agree, it’s horrible, ridiculously dangerous and who designed that should be shot. I can only guess that the car makers in CV and around had to do their crash tests somewhere
I’ve seen some nasty smashes on that ringroad. You’re supposed to drive in lane 2 and only move over into lane one to exit. Some of the junctions on the A45 are similarly badly designed, the one as you’re coming into Birmingham and the airport turnoff springs to mind.
personally I think that the M62/M61/A580 junction North of Manchester is worse than Spaghetti. Spaghetti had the advantage of being designed that way from the ground up, whereas the M62 is a mishmash of modifications and altertaions with narrow lanes and confusing sineage.
There is no such excuse for Coventry though - Except that they built it in such a tight space they just didnt have room to do it right.
I think the junction that should be simple but confuses a lot of people is the M4o/M42 split. The sineage is pretty good now with the famous “■■■■■■■ bunny” sign but you often see near misses as car and truck drivers change lanes at the last second - or even stop after the slip to look at their maps because they missed the turn.
the Ricoh ■■■■■ and its roads areok its the numpty set out of the signage and painting of the white lines
M42/M40 split is all done to poor lane marking
they should be a solid line from M40 north to stop / discourage people from moving to the left too soon

Best advice for any trucker driving around that cov ring road - keep to lane 1 and [ZB] the signs saying that you need to be in lane 2
If you keep to the signs then you will either get undertaken or have to keep moving from lane to lane

Why would you keep switching lanes? Get on, get in lane two, get in lane one as your exit approaches and then get off. Simples.

Having the cars constantly undertaking is a bit of a problem if you do that as I found out very quickly
I tried the ‘staying in lane 1’ all the way and guess what? - no problems
I don’t see why the cars undertaking would cause you a problem, they’ll go past you whichever lane you’re in and you have a mirror on both sides of the truck. By staying in lane one you are in fact causing more problems to other traffic wanting to join leave the ring road.
