The 1st shift

Well, what a day it was, Friday Oct 15th, if you were in Dundee you might have seen me in a Scania trying to figure out why the gearbox kept selecting high when I wanted low, usually in the middle of a roundabout. If I held you up, sorry. Dawned on me it must have been my knee hitting switch on gearshift.
Anyway, back to the beginning. I’m a newbie, having sat my test at Bishopbriggs last year (December), having trained at Richies in Springburn. My instructor throwing down the gauntlet by telling my fellow pupil and me that he had had 100% success rate since joining Richies 3 months previously. Well the 2 of of us did the business and kept his record intact. I joined an agency in Glasgow and they kept offering me 3.5 tonne work and I kept knocking it back, so the phone calls stopped. Spring sprung and I took off on my motorcycle on another tour, (I’m an early retired offshore type). So last month I thought I’d better get into driving before the training wore off. I signed up with another agency on Tuesday 12th Oct and was on the road on the friday.
10 drops in the middle of Dundee. Another 6 shifts later I am now sure I did the right thing getting my licence. I enjoy the driving, and the work is helping to get rid of the retirement belly. And the cash will help supplement the pension, keeping the motorbike maintained, and SWMBO in funds for the shops.
Looking forward to picking up tips on this site.

The word Roundabout seem to cause a lot of people problems, doing recovery work, it can get confusing to say the least, when interpreting peoples definition of “the next island” or straight on when two exits are almost straight on.
Another good reason for acquiring a Tom Tom me thinks.

This certainly looks like just the site I need for a newbie. After the 1st shift the phone to my mate who drives for Asda was red hot, but things are settling down now that I am a veteran with 6 shifts under my belt! The agency is getting me plenty of varied experience and the only gripe is the money. Not quite up to offshore levels, but at least I’m home every night, (so far!)
Thanks for the welcome
Gordon
