Thats a long one!

I have been asked to regularly move lengths of steel which have a 2.75 metre overhang at the rear, I am aware of the rules and regs about moving them but was wondering if the boys in blue would be like flies around ■■■■ when they see me on the road. Any replies, greatly appreciated.

If it needs stars it’s not allowed - repton.

i think you just need them orange beacons and you find out its ok for your truck to carry the weight if not then apply for a stgo license which will let you run at the design weight of a truck

i dont know the answer but i would say yes they would be all over you that is 9 foot overhang i would say you will need a longer trailer or an ■■■■■■

well dunno prestons don’t get escorts when they carry steel plus they just use extender trailers that wud be a good solution to ur dilema

 apart from a red and white triangular marker, you don’t need a second man or notifying to police until overhang exceeds 3.05m or 10 foot - as for the old bill being bothered about it, no way on earth these days

rikki has posted a photo previously of a 40 foot overhang with pipes, but a mate of mine beat it a while ago with a 42 metre beam on a 24m extendible trailer - from south wales to kent :open_mouth:

dont know how they let him away with that when there are plenty of extenders around opening up to well over 100ft long,it must have looked ridiculous

I used to regularly drive a truck with 6 feet sticking out the front over the cab and 10 foot hanging out the back and never once got stopped by anyone.
I used to put side markers on them although it wasn’t required just because some people seem to drive around with their eyes shut & I didn’t want them to drive or walk into my load.

indeed there are, but at 12 foot high as well, it needed a semi-low - hence the longest available was 24 metres in the bottom deck :stuck_out_tongue: it now forms part of the new ski slope as you come off the A2 northbound onto the M25 for Dartford Tunnel :sunglasses:
