Now if they put a ratchet strap over the top that wouldn’t have happened!

They just need Nina to sort this lot out - ratchet strap or chains, or maybe a net over the top? Why can’t we have XL curtainsider containerships?

Have looked at those before and wondered how they were all holding on. Seems if you’ve got lots of them stacked combined with high winds and the swell from the sea, this should likely happen an awful lot. Is there a VOSA for ships?

In the UK we have the MCA (maritime coastguard agency) while on the Continent all countries have their own Maritime Police, and they can be worse than Vosa …

Seem to remember reading on one of my ferry trips about a maritime law which said anything that fell overboard from port to port was not the shippers responsibility and could not be claimed for.

Deck cargo is normally carried at shippers risk, but I don’t think that include container ships.

Makes you wonder how many containers there are lying on the seabed around the world, probably millions.

Few years ago I hit a semi submerged one in the dark while crossing the bay of Biscay, put a nasty dent in the bow of the ship I was on.

Enough to do that damage, must have made a big noise ? A bit of a wave is enough for me.

Feel the same now, rolling and pitching around for days on end some trips and far too much bs and paperwork, so now work solely on the Thames where the only rolling we do is when a Clipper ferry goes by …

I’d love to watch them trying to sort that lot out in dock. One hell of an operation I should imagine.

i always like watching this one,but i wonder who pays for them?
i think its enroute china-russia.
over to you raymondo…

How do the cranes get a load like that back off as presumably they are designed only to pickup pretty much straight containers? I would guess the ship would get charged a fortune for sorting it and taking up so much dock space? Assuming anyone would take it due to the risk of more containers falling off and damaging the loading cranes.

As for the car one, “…Toyama, Japan, to Vladivostok, Russia.” according to the blurb. You would think the Japanese would insist on them being properly secured and transported on a proper ship not just stuck on the deck as a backload.

Might have helped if they had been secured, failing that they should have hove too (head to wind and dead slow ahead just enough to maintain steerage way)
