Anyone ever had their gaffers put on a christmas doo for the grafters/drivers as a thank you for the hard work during the year?
Yeah. Last year the guy who ran the agency I worked for took a few of us with wives/girlfriends out for a meal at a restaurant with his family and then we went to a pub afterwards when he bought the drinks.
Now at a larger agency and not a chance in hell, might get a card at best, but the place I’m driving at puts on a Xmas do for their staff and also have a separate Xmas do for the kids of the staff and its not a small place.
We get literally nothing…
My wife works for a small company and every year they pay for all of them and partners to go Alton Towers for a meal, stay overnight and give each table (there is normally 3-4) a company credit card to use at the bar…basically all it costs us is the fuel to get there, always a good night and normally costs them around 8 grand altogether (I know this as my wife works in the account dept).
It ain’t that time of year, it’s the middle of October ffs…
Company I work for have a Christmas do. It goes like this.
Meet up in city centre
Eat curry
Drink alcohol
Black out until angry hotel person bangs on the door at mid day and kicks everyone out. Then go home.
Love it!
Yep…in the good old days when haulage companies were family owned and the boss was called “gaffer”.
In today’s Logistics world I bet not so often do the workers get treated.
Go karting in the afternoon. +1’s meal in the evening all paid for. We are lucky I think.
I’d rather they spent the money they waste on a do by giving us a yearly miniscule payrise over and above our annual pay review. Drivers salaries frozen for nearly 5 years, then we received a rise at the beginning of this year.
As far as the do is concerned, they pay for us, we have to pay for our +1’s (normally around £35 a head) and its always some establishment with menu’s uneducated types can’t read. A complete and utter waste of time and money. I don’t attend any more, I object to having to pay for childcare AND my other half to attend when we can ill-afford it, and to be honest I spend my day working with these people, most of whom outside of the drivers circle, I wouldn’t really want to spend the time of day with, let alone a social gathering outside of work.
Can’t see me getting a Christmas do like we had at the last insurance company I worked for.
An all expenses trip to London, they booked the Dorchester for a meal and a competely free bar. Champagne on arrival, as much wine with the meal and however much you could drink of whatever your wanted after the meal until the early hours.
This year I think I’ll be getting a can of Skol of I’m lucky!!
The guys I work with have been saving for several months now and I have donated to pay for a cracking night out for the Boss, the man who we
work for and who has kept us going all year, just a token of our appreciation.thought you all did it.

At Mixed Freight Services i got every Xmas soo much Stuff that i needed a Van to drive it Home
Ahh,In Austria you get for Xmas another Monthly Payment,as you need to December Pay for your Bills.
Over 20 yrs since i last had this, he used to come down the pub when we had finished for christmas and have a few pints with us and some food then leave us to it with a free bar, as the yard and village pub was in the middle of nowhere he even used to leave the works van on the yard front with the keys under the wheel so we could all get home at teatime when the pub shut (remember that ), wouldnt dream of doing it now but it seemed ok back in the day
Yep this has been done but to be honest I have never been to a works do yet I work with these people not socialise with them
Sorry boss

We moved my mums parents up to Lincolnshire this year. Should make doing Christmas a lot easier as they are getting on in years now.
Last year, the small family firm put a notice up in the office, inviting people to put their name down for a xmas do.
Out of 80 or so employees over 2 yards, 3 people put their name down.
Speaks volumes about morale in this crappy wee company.
