Is it not true that all new trailers now have trailer breaks that automatically come on now when the airline is removed?
I’ve only driven artics for like 4 years but I have yet to have a trailer that wont move unless the airline is connected. It is astounding in this day and age that it isn’t a mandatory requirement for all trailers to have park brakes that come on when the airlines are removed tbh. But as said not currently but you can have them.

Astounding, it’s been standard fare here for thirty plus years and a simple retrofit.
Maybe someone had previously pushed the shunt button, and left it like that?
Maybe if the driver knew how to hook up correctly it would never have happened a 10 second walk to the trailer brake and 5 minutes later he would have been on his way

That is irrelevant if this quote from the article is correct:
“Apparently they were trying to hook it up and it just rolled in.”
Clearly a case of failing to put the unit handbrake on.

Most units now have an alarm that goes off if you exit the cab with the handbrake off.

It looks fairly new. I thought DAFs have a robot voice that shouts at you if you forget to do that? Still, cab handbrake off sounds like the most likely explanation. And if you’re that sloppy chances are you wouldn’t leave your hand for a couple of seconds on the trailer brake after release. Just in case, like.

you must be part of the self preservation society!
Did you guys read down past the article and see a comment by Caspar Hughes (the name says it all!) about ‘cycling around these drivers’? I hoped his bike was chained to the railings behind the trailer.

A truck rolled into Bristol Harbour this morning. …
My theory is that it’s only dozy’s latest disaster… all he had to do was collect his trailer after bobtailing to the match.
I think I can just make out a Bristol Rovers scarf in the cab…

Probably the left wing blm supporting crusties who threw the Colson statue into Bristol harbour. Saw a pure white lorry and decided it was racist so in the drink it goes
Sharp, I like it.
We all know about putting the brake on when hitching up etc. etc. and we don’t all do it all the time. BUT FFS you’re picking up a trailer near a harbour - double check everything then check it again.
