Thanks for the work

Just returned from doing the Barcelona job that was advertised in the vacancies forum. 4 easy days work, hotels paid for and a flight home as described. Picked up from Gatwick yesterday by chauffeur and taken back to my car in Oxford.
There was a 7.5t Iveco parked on a farm near Bicester. Loaded, all paperwork and run money left for me. Had two collections in Essex to do on the way to Eurotunnel and that was me on the way.

Got off the train in Calais about 0200 in the morning and stopped at an F1 just outside Arras. Next day started at mid-day and drove to a hotel just outside Clermont Ferrand one of the Kyriad chain. Was quite nice, no restaurant but if using the hotel next door, you get a 15% discount.
Started at 0840 on Friday morning and headed for Montpelier direction via the Milau Viaduct. Stunning in the warm sunshine.
Lovely day all the way to the Fira exibition centre in Barcelona around 1830 local time, then realised this place was closed and the new one was located 3 km away!
I never even had to offload, just dump the keys and take a cab to my final hotel. Had Mc donalds finest then a shower and a good nights kip. The gaffer rang me next morn and asked me to go back to the site and move the truck to a truck park 3 miles away. So I got a cab back to Barca, parked it and headed to the airport. Nice wee job and look forward to the next one!

Nice one Vern, makes the job worth while when its organised…and a few quid to boot. :sunglasses:

Glad that worked fine for you Vern, I just hoped the favour I did for someone asking on the vacancies sectioned would have worked out as well for me. Not moaning at all, still enjoyed it (swould have made a pleasant change if I wasn’t stuck on a bit of waste ground for nearly a week and only able to hobble to the rear of the trailer for a pee) I partially tore my achilles tendon jumping of the trailer but never knew for a fortnight when it went altogether and was in plaster for 6 weeks so unable to come back to my own job. Such is life  and no sick pay either!

That is a glowing report for a forum member from a forum member, not all of the posts have been so flattering. Good to find someone true to his word.

Good do Ade, bet it was better than the rest of the week ‘plating’ I saw your post about being off to Barcelona and assumed it was the job out of the vacancies section
Good feedback as well might produce some more work for you :exclamation:

All the best mate
Regards
Dave Penn;

Sorry couldnt meet on mon but this work thing got in the way

Good luck with it

Money just deposited into my account as promised. Good man, well worth knowing.

Little update. Just received an e-mail asking if I’d like to go back to Barcelona and collect the truck?
Well…It would be rude not to! So I’m off on Saturday by the looks of it. Anyone else need me? :sunglasses:

Nice work when you can get it big man, have a good one.

Your not willy waving are you V?

Sounds good, go for it. Although I’ve always thought the view of Millau Viaduct isn’t half as impressive heading back!

I dunno…Down is quite nice if the light hits it just so.

When it was built, it was heavily landscaped on the northern approach. After passing the gare de peage the viaduct appears, then disappears, then re-appears. All of this is entirely artificial, the hills which make the viaduct appear and disappear are entirely man-made. Victorian railway engineers often used a similar trick, putting an unnecessary S bend into the tracks on the approach to a particularly impressive station to make it appear and then disappear before appearing once more.

Here’s a view of the disappearing and re-appearing Millau Viaduct taken when travelling south. If you look carefully once you know, you can see that the hills are artificial.

When heading back north, you can also see that these hills are artificial, because you can see the backs of them.

For Big Verns benefit if you come back up over Millau when you get just south of Clermont pull off at junction12 Issoire, turn right and drive into
the estate and on your right is the new American truck dealership with its Lonestar Cafe open 7/7 and a resturant 0700-2300.Take a look around enjoy the rigs
and if it’s there a superb Longline which if Rikki gets off his ■■■■ should be on the Biglorryblog shortly,Great stop.

Nice one Ade  have a safe trip, looks like thing’s are looking up for you :exclamation:
